I&C Design Team Lead

As the I&C Design Team Lead, you will provide the team and technical leadership for the engineering assessment, design and safety justification of the SMR300 for deployment in the UK and worldwide. You will be directly responsible for delivering technical scope of high integrity/complex Instrumentation & Control systems within the I&C discipline, as well as taking ownership of the I&C engineering chapter of the Safety Case for submission to the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) for use in the Generic Design Assessment (GDA).
The I&C Design Team Lead will build strong relationships with the US SMR I&C team. The UK GDA is a critical element for commercial deployment of SMR-300s worldwide, and this role provides a unique opportunity in an exciting emerging technology and energy marketplace.
Experience should include:
* Experience in integrated digital plant control design, specifically control and protection systems and diverse actuation systems.
* Experience with applicable (including nuclear-specific) IEEE, IEC, ISA, and ANSI codes and standards.
* Evidence of providing technical leadership for complex I&C design engineering projects.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
* Development of I&C safety case strategy in accord with ONR’s Safety Assessment Principles.
* I&C technical leadership for the Holtec SMR design development in the UK, including development of technical strategy, issue resolution, topic management and development of organizational arrangements required to deliver the Safety Case.
* Providing line management and coordinating the team, responsible for coaching and mentoring to develop the team and the individuals in technical skills and in personal skills enabling them to deliver.
* Preparing and delivering presentations to internal and external organizations including the nuclear regulators.
* Developing nuclear safety functional requirements for electrical / I&C systems.
* Interpreting and performing gap analysis of design with applicable (including nuclear-specific) codes and standards including IEC standards.
* Interact with regulators to defend electrical and I&C design and explain supporting substantiation.
* Support UK team development, participating in interviews.
* Regulatory engagement with the ONR and EA as technical lead.
* Leading requirements management for the delivery of safety functions and design substantiation.
Minimum Requirements:
* Degree qualified in an engineering or science related discipline.
* Must possess excellent credentials in principles of power plant digital control design.
* Technical team leadership, management, coaching and mentoring experience.
* Ability to work independently and balance competing priorities.
* Strong interpersonal skills. Able to engage credibly within and external to the business.
* Strong presentation and communication skills – able to present at multiple organisational levels and to external regulatory stakeholders.
* A credible decision maker, able to create confidence through crafting of strong justifications and arguments.
* Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810
