Job overview
This is an exciting and innovative post which will support the successful candidate to become part of a rapidly developing Palliative care and Bereavement service working across BWCH as a Band 6 palliative care nurse.
You will have a passion for paediatric palliative care (PPC) and be ambitious and highly motivated to support the advancement of a nurse led transformational service in enhancing a collaborative and dynamic approach in delivering and championing children’s palliative, end of life and bereavement care across the Trust and the organisations.
The band 6 post is an opportunity to raise your awareness of the wider PPC and bereavement care (BC) team and how it functions as well as assisting you to develop your managerial knowledge and leadership skills. There will be an opportunity to complete the Masters module in Paediatric palliative care to acquire foundation knowledge and skills which will provide you with the necessary knowledge and competencies to ensure the safe and effective management of PPC and BC, its development and expansion and the service needs.

Qualifications
* NMC Registered Nurse (Child) / RSCN
* First Degree in relevant subject / equivalent qualification or equivalent experience.
* Significant recent experience of working within Children’s Nursing including working with children and their families with life limiting conditions.
* Master’s Degree relevant to post.
* Advanced Communication Skills Course
* Teaching qualification
Experience
* Relevant, up to date clinical skills; Excellent interpersonal, written & verbal communication skills, with the ability to manage complex & difficult emotional situations
* Sound knowledge and experience of safeguarding children & vulnerable adults
* Experience in palliative and end of life care
Analytical and Judgement Skills
* Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework
* Able to articulate an understanding of the NMC Code and its application to clinical practice
* Clear understanding and commitment to clinical governance
* Articulates understanding of health & safety, risk management & the patient safety agenda relating to children & young people
Professional/Managerial and Specialist Knowledge

Our current Mental Health Services division may be transferring the provision of its services to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust (BSMHFT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position within Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to BSMHFT.
