If yes, then read on…. We are looking for a specialist nurse to join our service for patients with gynaecological cancer. You will be expected to promote a high-quality service that provides specialist care, information, support, and management to patients, their families, and carers.
Main duties of the job
Our teams deliver a holistic approach using the latest technologies to support individualised assessments and care planning. The service aims to provide focused and co-ordinated specialist knowledge and skills to enable patients to have access to a comprehensive package of care and interventions to enable them to live as well as possible. You will work closely with other specialist nurses, MDT team, and liaise with primary care and other specialist services, to ensure that patients are supported. You should have:
* Post-registration experience Band 5/Band 6
* Cancer nursing or Gynaecology Surgery experience desirable
* Good interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience of multidisciplinary collaborative practice
* Leadership and organisational ability
* IT and data analysis skills
You will also be part of a wider team of cancer specialist nurses and be supported in your ongoing development.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will join a small nursing team which is part of the wider multidisciplinary team overseeing the care of individuals with gynaecological cancers. You will attend weekly multidisciplinary team meetings, see patients in outpatient clinics, and visit patients undergoing surgery or receiving chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
The Specialist Nurse will contribute to the care of a patient group by leading on defined aspects of care.
Specialist Nurses will:
* Accept patient referrals to agreed criteria and be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient/client caseload.
* Provide advice, education, and support to patients, their carers, and other health care professionals.
* Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to approved protocols or guidance.
* Contribute to the smooth running of the designated service.
* Liaise with other hospital and community teams along an agreed pathway to support the delivery of patient and family centred seamless care.
* Contribute to the ongoing development of the designated service.
Person specification
Education
* Registered nurse (part 1, 8, 12, or 15 of register depending on area of practice)
* Degree level nursing qualification
Knowledge
* Demonstrable experience caring for patients with gynaecological cancers
* Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in the specialty
* Demonstrates excellent communication skills
* Evidence of continuing professional development
Skills
* Ability to work flexibly
* Previous experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff.
* Awareness of leadership skills
