JOB SUMMARY
To assist the Health Play Specialist team in meeting the healthcare needs of children and their families through the provision of appropriate play and recreational activities. The post holder will assist the professionals in delivering care to children and young people in a variety of settings including acute in-patient areas, clinics, community, homes, and schools. To provide play for normalisation of children attending hospital.
Main duties of the job
1. To organise and supervise age-appropriate play/recreational activities for individual and groups of children and young people in hospital, according to their individual needs and as part of the overall plan.
2. To plan a programme of daily play activities for the playroom, ensuring supervision and safety at all times.
3. To provide play-based observations to support the overall assessment of the child.
4. To respect the individuality, values, cultural, and religious diversity of children and young people and their families, and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.
5. To use knowledge of child development when selecting play activities.
6. To work as a lone Play Team worker following instruction and supervision by a member of senior therapy staff.
7. To support and promote the rights of the child in terms of privacy and dignity.
8. To ensure play equipment is clean and safe to use at all times, reporting and removing hazards.
