We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist available on a full-time and 9 month fixed term basis. Our Histology team operates its service across two laboratories, Taunton and Yeovil and we have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join our team. This position is primarily based in Histology, at our Taunton Laboratory within our Essential Service Laboratory at Musgrove Park Hospital. You will have the opportunity to work in a laboratory that takes a leading technological approach with state-of-the-art technology in digital pathology and specimen tracking.
Our team at SPS have been fundamental to the principle of making a positive difference to healthcare in Somerset for over a decade. We hold ISO15189 UKAS accreditation and are an HCPC approved training Laboratory for both IBMS Registration and Specialist Portfolios.

Responsibilities
As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist within the Histology team, you will perform and interpret routine and specialist testing providing patient centred scientific excellence whilst maintaining high quality standards in accordance with ISO15189. This includes dissection/grossing of category A and B specimens, immunohistochemistry using the Leica Bond platform, Quality Control Procedures and audit.
You will supervise, mentor and support Biomedical Scientists, Trainee Biomedical Scientists, Associate Practitioners and Medical Laboratory Assistants within your department, sharing your knowledge, experience and passion for your work. As a registered Biomedical Scientist, you will have the responsibility of maintaining fitness to practice and participate actively in CPD. SPS will commit to support you in developing your skills and knowledge in line with your professional growth and our business interests.

Qualifications
If you have the following qualifications and skills then we’d love to hear from you:
* HCPC registration with post registration experience working in a Histology laboratory.
* IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Cellular Pathology/Histology
* Good working knowledge and hands on experience working with various Histology platforms.
We will also consider Band 5 applicants looking to complete a specialist portfolio with automatic progression to Band 6 upon successful completion.
