Working as part of the Eastern Pathology Alliance, based at the James Paget University Hospital Great Yarmouth, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a cutting edge Laboratory encompassing Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, Transfusion and Andrology.
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Multidisciplinary Blood Science Spoke Laboratory at the James Paget University Hospital. The successful candidate will ideally be multidisciplinary trained in Hematology, Blood Transfusion and Biochemistry. If you have an interest in training as a multidisciplinary Biomedical Scientist, we would welcome your application.
You will be joining a friendly vibrant team in a recently refurbished laboratory. The Laboratory operates Abbott Alinity Haematology and Chemistry analysers, Werfen TOPS coagulation and Immucor NEO Blood Grouping analysers, with Grifols analysers currently under evaluation to replace the Neo's in Transfusion.

Main duties of the job
Knowledge of laboratory based computers, audits, SOPs, ISO standards and quality is a requirement.
Essential qualities we require are an ability to work within a team, good communication skills, good technical proficiency and an ability to work unsupervised.
You must be able to work under pressure and be able to meet deadlines, be flexible and adaptable and show that you are motivated and willing to develop your knowledge and skill.

Job responsibilities
The following skills and experience will be required and are essential for the successful candidates:
* Communicates complex clinical scientific service related test information to managers, consultants, nurses, other health care colleagues, patients and patient carers
* Answers telephone inquiries from pathology users, patients and patient carers about test results and provide information that is highly complex about methodologies and service requirements
* Interprets results and reassures the users that the information is correct when results do not agree with clinical presentation and investigate and problem solves situations in their specialist field
* Manages own work and day-to-day routine work in specialised services. Responsible for processing both urgent and routine work to maintain routine turnaround times in line with Trust and Service polices
* Maintains very complex specialist analytical equipment on a daily basis and sign off as fit for clinical use.
* Manage and maintain specialised databases in laboratory computer systems and patient storage databases on a daily basis
* Responsible for inputting and amending specialist patient data and results, which includes other colleagues work
* Educate and train Medical staff, Clinical Scientists, other BMS, Trainee BMS and MLAs as required within their specialised area
* Provide safety supervision and training for junior members of staff and actively promote safe working practices in all areas of the laboratory
