The Role
As Quantity Surveyor you will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of critically assessed contract reporting for all Capital Projects undertaken by the client. In this role, the Quantity Surveyor will be accountable for managing Commercial Controls and Contract Reporting within the Capital Projects division, while providing guidance and support to the Operations Team on Commercial, Contractual, and Financial project management.
As Quantity Surveyor you will support across 22 live projects at various stages, from Tender through to Commissioning. This role is based in our clients Gloucester head office, but travel to the various projects will be expected, as and when required by the Commercial Manager and Project Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Cost Administration:
Responsible for cost validation at Tender Handover and Contract Review.
* Review and highlight contract conditions impacting project commercials, detailing risks and key rules for the delivery team.
* Assess and negotiate contract terms with legal, ensuring favourable conditions.
* Inform project teams of contractual obligations affecting delivery.
* Ensure strict adherence to Company policies for commercial management of Clients and Subcontractors, including payments, variations, and notices.
* Vet and input Client/Subcontractor variations into the Cost Control System after approval.
* Manage commercial relationships with Clients.
* Produce and oversee accurate Monthly Cost Control Reports, challenging discrepancies.
* Investigate and challenge ‘Non-recoverable Costs.’
Project Performance/Management:
* Review and issue Project Actuals to Project Managers for their assessment.
* Attend monthly project review meetings and compile relevant information within agreed timelines.
* Assess payment applications against project costs.
* Continuously track projected costs to completion, ensuring alignment with the budget alongside Project Managers, the Contract Director, and the Commercial Director.
* Ensure variations are issued in accordance with company requirements.
* Monitor and challenge project expenditures to maintain accuracy.
* Prepare precise forecasts of project costs to completion and final accounts.
* Generate comprehensive monthly Project Reports for the senior leadership team, covering all Capital Projects within the GBEC Group. These reports should align with agreed formats, adhere to company timelines, and include all necessary supporting information and key data.
Project Completion/Handover:
* Review of project gross margin and costs.
* Conduct commercial evaluations of all completed projects.
* Maintain accurate records of all retentions for both customers and suppliers, ensuring timely release of retentions and minimising overdue retention payments owed to us.
Key Requirements
* Must have detailed knowledge of Construction specific Contract forms.
* 3-5 years’ experience in quantity surveying within a relevant business environment.
* Detailed understanding of Contracts, in particular JCT and NEC and their administration.
* Membership of a relevant professional body and/or relevant professional qualification, such as RICS/CIOB/RIBA/ICE/CIBS, is desirable but not essential.
* Strong contractual and commercial knowledge.
* Experience of working in a senior position.
* Strong commercial management and project experience.
* Proven ability to build and maintain good working relationships with customers, suppliers and other stakeholders.
