The Dee Estuary team are seeking a dynamic and motivated Assistant Warden to join the team, based at Woolston Eyes Nature Reserve.
Your role will be incredibly varied, and you'll carry out a range of tasks including - delivering habitat management, species surveying and habitat monitoring, supervising contractors, engaging with stakeholders, maintenance tasks, and managing some amazing volunteers.
We are seeking an individual with experience of practical habitat management, working with and inspiring volunteers, surveying birds and other taxa and working with machinery. They will also have good reserves infrastructure and estate maintenance skills.
The applicant should also have a good knowledge of natural history, with good bird identification skills.
They should also be a strong team player with excellent organisational, communication, practical and inter-personal skills, ready to inspire and motivate to achieve great things for nature.
Key responsibilities:
* Habitat management to ensure conservation targets are being met
* Maintenance of machinery to ensure they are operating safely and efficiently
* Mapping and gathering and managing electronic data to ensure data and maps are stored and can be used and assessed by others
* Maintaining high standards of health and safety
* General administration and report writing
Essential skills, knowledge, and experience
* Natural history knowledge
* Maintenance and use of machinery, tools and equipment
* Habitat management
* Microsoft Office packages including Word, Excel, and Outlook
* Problem solving and coming up with well thought through practical solutions
* Working unsupervised for extended periods
* Developing and implementing work plans
* Manage oneself and others to prioritise and work to an agreed plan
* Practical land management experience and delivering estate management works
Desirable qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience
* Lantra or equivalent qualifications in ATV, chainsaw, tractor driving, brushcutter, pesticides
* Control of invasive species
* Biological recording
* Implementing and updating health and safety records
