Therapy Assistant to support OT and physio
North locality: Community therapy team of Occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy assistants
Base: Hartshill Health Centre, Nuneaton
We are looking for flexible, dynamic, and enthusiastic Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our exciting community therapy team covering the North Warwickshire locality. This is a development role into a B4 therapy assistant, this is dependant on the completion of Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care. This distinguished service model will focus on more care in the community, better use of technology and increased multi-disciplinary working.
The service operates from 8.00am until 18.00. Applicants will also be expected to work weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis.
The successful candidates will work with patients in their own homes to deliver integrated care, intervention, equipment provision and short term rehabilitation.
You will liaise and work closely with both Occupational and Physio Therapists and a range of nursing staff within the community response team, as well as General Practitioners and the acute hospital.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake roles and duties delegated by the Community team leader or suitably qualified professional. Working within the boundaries set out by the regulated professional, the scope of the role enables the post holder to make a non-complex assessment of the patient according to level of competence and act on the assessment. They will work collaboratively with the team to meet the needs of patients with specified long-term conditions by providing quality evidence-based care. The post holder will follow practice policy and procedures and provide supervision to more junior staff.
Job responsibilities
Clinical
1. To gain informed consent for treatment in accordance with Trust policy.
2. To develop and deliver physiotherapy or Occupational therapy treatment programmes using guidelines set by qualified physiotherapists.
3. Evaluate patient progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if necessary following discussion with qualified therapists.
4. Maintain accurate documentation both written and electronic in accordance with professional (CSP), legal and Trust guidelines.
5. To hold responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of the service and work without direct supervision.
6. To use and apply clinical knowledge and experience to assess and manage clinical risk within the limits of own scope of practice.
Communication
1. To communicate effectively with patients, carers and relatives on an individual or group basis.
2. To be committed to a team approach in order to provide continuity and efficiency of service provision.
Other
1. To order general stores articles and equipment required by the department.
2. To carry out administrative duties as required.
3. To identify opportunities to improve the therapy service in order to provide the best patient care within the available resources.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Education to GCSE level or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio
* Willingness to work towards the Care Certificate
* NVQ Level 3 or willingness to work towards
* Membership of CSP
Experience
* Previous experience as physiotherapy assistant or equivalent
* Experience of working as part of a team
* Experience of working in acute hospital environment
Skills
* Able to present information, written and orally in an accurate clear and logical manner
* Ability to organise prioritise and delegate
* Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers
Other
* Passes Occupational Health clearance and police checks
* Able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the working day
* Car driver and independent means of transport
