Maintenance Craftsperson (Mechanical Bias)

This role will be required to undertake the installation, commission, maintenance, service and repair of a full range of mechanical engineering related such as LTHW installations, ventilation plant, domestic hot water systems, drainage and general mechanical machinery. The works will be carried out within properties maintained by CHoICE Facilities Services (CFS) across the Sunderland and South Tyneside region. The role will witness a primary focus predominantly on mechanical works; however, the post holder may be required to diversify into other engineering and building trades.
The post holder will be predominantly based at South Tyneside Hospital, NE34 0PL.
Furthermore, the post holder will provide a Competent Person lead technical role within the Department to undertake supervisory/guidance duties of other direct employed labour force and at times this may include contractors.
The post holder will also be required to participate in the current shift pattern/system, current on-call rota, and undertake overtime when the service needs dictate for which appropriate payments will be made.
Experience dependent, the expected range of earnings for this role is between £31,976 - £38,926; however, recent employees within this role have earned around £42k due to overtime and on-call payments.
Main Duties of the Job

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Basic numeracy & literacy skills to level 1 or equivalent
* Basic IT Skills
* BTEC/ONC, City & Guilds or NVQ level 3 or equivalent in suitable engineering related discipline
* Completion of recognised and accredited apprenticeship in a relevant engineering discipline
* Completion of specialist engineering related training via formalised training or suitable experience.
* City & Guilds Quarterly testing of large porous load sterilisers
* City & Guilds Quarterly Testing of Washers Disinfectors
* HVAC Competent Person Certificate
Experience
* Knowledge and experience of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems typically found within a large NHS Acute Trust
* Detailed knowledge and experience of mechanical system requirements and regulations typically found within large NHS Acute Trust acquired through qualifications and relevant experience
* Complex fault diagnosis required, interpreting technical issues and formulating technical solutions to improve performance and maintain the service
* Have suitable and sufficient experience as a competent person to a level able to accept a permit to work from an authorised person
* Experience of working within an NHS Hospital Environment
* Experience of operating Building Management Systems (BMS)
Skills and Knowledge
* Able to use his/her own initiative when undertaking a range of problem solving scenarios to allow for satisfactory completion.
* Ability to adapt to the changing demands of the role including the reaction to emergency situations

* Knowledge of planned preventative maintenance systems
* Knowledge of building management systems (BMS)

* Able to travel and work at all sites
* Able to undertake moderate physical activities for long periods throughout a typical working day
* Able to complete tasks which require short intensive bursts of effort before returning to moderate physical activities
* Undertake regular moving and handling activities
* Requirement for highly developed physical dexterity, for hand and eye coordination and manipulation of fine tools
