About the role
The Senior Research Fellow will be leading a portfolio of projects related to finance to enable shipping’s decarbonisation. The role is undertaken with support from the shipping research group, led by Dr Tristan Smith and Dr Nishatabbas Rehmatulla. The individual will be responsible for developing new areas of inquiry and applied research around stranded assets and climate/development finance in shipping. The individual will support the group’s work across different policy forums and stakeholder groups and help with the generation and dissemination of evidence to key decision makers, including to help create impact from the group’s research. The successful applicant will work in a multi-disciplinary team and where appropriate also support a number of ongoing commercial and policy consultancy projects and relationships with collaborators and funders. They should have an enthusiasm for working in multidisciplinary environments alongside physical scientists, social scientists, and economists to achieve joint research goals. This post is available from and is funded for 12 months in the first instance; further funding to support the post may be available. About you
The candidate will have a PhD degree in one of the following disciplines: business and economics, sustainability and environmental design, engineering, transport or energy studies, have commensurate research and practice-based experience, which includes quantitative research methods in the context of sustainability and energy research. The candidate will have in-depth knowledge of financing aspects related to the maritime sector and experience of engaging with industry and policy stakeholders. The candidate will be working in a multi-disciplinary research environment and should have the ability to integrate knowledge from different disciplines.
