Purpose - To engage effectively with young people in their own communities and to contribute towards their learning and development by using a range of educational practices and approaches.
1. You will be responsible for:
2. Working in a team to plan, organise and evaluate general activities such as arts and crafts sessions, sports events, team challenges, and more specific activities such as Youth Achievement Award projects and residential learning experiences.
3. Developing open, honest and trusting relationships to provide opportunities for growth and development in a supportive environment
4. Encouraging young people to participate in group discussions and group activities that promote acceptance and understanding of others and equality of opportunities for all
5. build their self-esteem and self-confidence,
6. consider risk, make reasoned choices and take control of their own lives,
7. develop a ‘world view’ which widens horizons and invites social commitment.
8. build the capacity of young people through the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills.
The Person
Previous experience of volunteering or work with young people is desirable.
Gets on well with children and young people.
Ability to act as a positive role model to young people.
Awareness of young people’s issues and development needs.
Able to work as part of a team.
Good organisational skills.
Good time-keeper and reliable, prepared to work flexibly.
PDA in Youth Work or SVQ level 2 in youth work is desirable.
Before confirming to your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.
