This is a hybrid role working 3 days in the office (City of London location) and 2 days working from home.
Role Purpose:
Overall responsibility for the Underwriting function of the Regulated Bridging team, encompassing the evaluation and processing of regulated short-term lending applications, through the management of the Underwriting team. To demonstrate leadership through technical expertise and effective people management. To be an integral part of the Bridging Senior Management Team (SMT) to help the business achieve its strategic ambitions.
Responsibilities:
* Maintaining credit quality within the Bridging department
* Make lending decisions in line with Credit Risk Policy, Responsible Lending Policy and individual mandate level
* Support the team by underwriting complex cases, demonstrating high level technical experience and capabilities which include writing robust credit papers and technical development of staff skill set
* Ability to make commercial decisions where necessary within overarching policies to facilitate drawdown of loans
* Work collaboratively with the SMT to identify/evolve new product, process and sales distribution demonstrating clear teamwork characteristics supporting a "one team ethos" culture
* Liaise with the QA Manager to ensure policies and procedures are being followed and high underwriting standards are maintained
* Work alongside the Head of Sales and BDMs to provide product and underwriting support to introducers
* Attend industry events and broker visits when required
* Work with the Compliance, Audit and Credit functions to ensure that regulatory change and best practice principles are adhered to
* Ensure that divisional key performance indicators are met, particularly packaging quality
* Complete people management activity for direct reports, including monthly 1 to 1's, performance monitoring and objective reviews
* Adhere to internal policy and regulatory requirements - FCA, PRA, AML, Prevention of Financial Crime, GDPR etc
* Identify opportunities and proactively drive recommendations for continuous improvement particularly to process
* Undertake project and ad-hoc pieces of work at management request
Skills and Experience:
Essential Experience
* 5+ years underwriting, credit or lending exposure within a bridging or short-term lending environment
* Effective teamwork
* Operational management experience
* Currently holds a lending/credit mandate
* Strong understanding of the regulatory environment
* Liaising with Introducers and/or external customers
Desirable Experience
* CeMAP qualified, or part qualified
* Experience in Project Management
