You will work within the finance and commercial team which sits within the wider people and business support directorate. The role is part of a small finance function that assumes a broad range of responsibilities including accounts payable, production of management and financial accounts, payroll and cash management. You will have the opportunity to work with and support colleagues across the organisation at all levels and contribute to the continued development of the finance function. What you will do Support the Senior Finance and Payroll Officer with maintaining and improving the finance and payroll system, delivering effective solutions to meet the needs of our internal and external customers. Proactively liaise with others throughout the organisation in their use of the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, including communication through various mediums and the coaching of others, including board and executive staff. Ensure the accurate onboarding of new partners/workers including accurate data entry and recording of all payroll-related documentation. Coordinate with the partner team and other departments to gather necessary workers information and ensure all workers are set up correctly in the payroll system. Responsible for the end-to-end payroll process on a monthly basis for workers, ensuring that they are paid accurately and on time. This includes processing pay, processing deductions, applying holiday pay and pensions and ensuring compliance with tax regulations and statutory requirements. Develop a wider understanding of employee payroll at Social Work England and deputise for other finance and payroll officers during periods of absence or leave, ensuring continuity of payroll processing and timely completion of all payroll related tasks. Maintain up-to-date and accurate payroll records to ensure compliance with internal and external audit and to maintain effective financial controls relating to payroll related payments and obligations. Act as a point of contact for any workers payroll queries, working closely with other internal departments to investigate and resolve any payroll queries in a timely manner ensuring any wider issues are escalated. Ensure the accurate recording and calculation of pension contributions. Liaise with external payroll and pension stakeholders to ensure any statutory obligations are met, issues are resolved, and penalties avoided. Your skills, knowledge and experience Previous experience of working in a similar payroll or finance role with experience of communicating team targets, allocating work, ensuring quality of outputs, and providing specialist guidance to team members and colleagues outside of the finance team. Specialist, in-depth knowledge of payroll and pensions with demonstrable experience of providing advice and guidance to both internal and external customers. Experience of reconciling payroll control accounts, ensuring all payroll liabilities are correctly recorded and being responsible for the investigation and resolution of any payroll related discrepancies. Ability to work using your own initiative, investigate issues, drawing relevant facts from several different sources, and be proactive in seeking solutions. Strong communication and inter-personal skills, with the ability to manage relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Strong organisational, time management and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage a complex, varied workload effectively. Working to agreed deadlines with a high degree of accuracy. Proficient in Microsoft Excel e.g. Lookups, Pivot tables etc and well developed written and verbal communication. AAT qualified and/or working towards a professional accounting or payroll qualification (CIPP). Details Job type: 12-months fixed term. Working pattern: Full-time.
