With state-of-the-art skills in materials technology, particularly relating to elastomers, polymers, composites, and engineering plastics plus extensive expertise in precision machining of exotic alloys for metallic seals, and tension control fasteners for bolted joints.
Your Role
We are currently looking to recruit a Quality Engineer on a permanent contract. This role will be within the Quality department based at the Cockermouth Manufacturing Business Unit in Cumbria. The purpose of this role is to support the company in its achievement of strategic objectives through the provision of a technically strong Quality support function, involving both assurance and control aspects. You will be involved in projects and day-to-day support of both internal and external customers/suppliers. There will be an emphasis on the reduction of defects through rational improvement and adherence to established process controls. You will be expected to work in a pressurised environment whilst meeting tight deadlines and be able to demonstrate that you can make a positive contribution to the Quality and wider James Walker team.
The hours of work are 35 hours per week. The salary is dependent on skills and experience; please detail your salary expectations on your application.
Key Responsibilities
1. Continual improvement of the Quality Management System, ensuring key processes, procedures, and documentation are in place to comply with national, industry, and customer-specific standards.
2. Fully support both customer and accreditation body audits as well as coordinating any resulting CAPA's.
3. Handle various enquiries in relation to Quality related matters from internal and external stakeholders and support customer and supplier visits as necessary.
4. Maintain, improve and drive forward shop floor processes by promoting and enforcing compliance.
5. Represent the Quality department at internal and off-site meetings as required, which may include supplier audits.
6. Liaise with other departments, for example, Technical and Operations to ensure delivery of conforming products to our Customers.
7. Support audits, internal and external.
8. Lead problem-solving and continuous improvement activity.
9. Produce and deliver training materials.
10. Develop and maintain relationships with key customers, suppliers, and approval authorities.

Experience/Qualifications:
1. Proven experience of working in a Quality environment.
2. Solid understanding of Quality Management Systems.
3. Proficient in the use of quality core tools around APQP and 8D.
4. Knowledge of AS9100, ISO9001, and Lean Sigma tools would be an advantage.
5. Qualified to Degree standard in an Engineering or related engineering discipline.
