The postholder will determine clinical diagnosis and treatments indicated, and maintain records as an autonomous practitioner. Responsible for providing clinical expertise for developing and enhancing the service. This will be carried out collaboration with medical, nursing and allied health professional colleagues. Responsible for providing an expert service, utilising highly specialized advanced nursing skills to effectively treat/ initiate treatment to all patients in their care, ensure that evidence-based practice is inherent in all aspects of care and treatment and ensure this knowledge is disseminated throughout the clinical area, Health Board and externally as appropriate. Responsible for developing highly specialised programmes of care for paediatric patients following clinical diagnosis. Providing highly specialist clinical advice to other practitioners involved in the patients care. The Lead Paediatric Advanced Practitioner is the lead specialist in their field and is therefore required to practice autonomously interpreting clinical policies and advising the organisation on how these policies should be implemented. They have the freedom to exercise judgement about actions, in turn accepting responsibility and being held to account for them. Responsible for the continuous professional development of paediatric nursing staff devising training and development programmes for staff up to and including Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The post holder will also participate in the training of junior doctors and allied health professions in relation to the diagnosis and treatment of paediatric patients. In conjunction with the Resus Council and Local University the post holder will participate in the delivery of educational programmes such as APLS/EPLS Responsible for providing professional leadership through being a role model, mentor and practice educator in response to patient / client need and service demand. Undertake research and clinical audit in the paediatric field. This will include involvement with all Wales projects.
