Job Purpose

* Providing a highly specialist clinical service with responsibility for children with developmental speech and language delays/disorders/social communication difficulties and differences as relevant to the role. The post holder will have well developed highly specialist skills in one or more clinical specialism within the broad range of speech, language and communication needs encountered within the caseload children.
* Working closely with parents/carers, and staff to enable children to develop their speech, language and communication skills and to access the curriculum.
* Understanding and meeting professional and legal SEND responsibilities outlined in the Children and Families Act 2014, including contributing to statutory assessments of special educational needs and delivery of Speech and Language Therapy provision as specified in children’s Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
* To act in specialist lead role within the Education team in one or more clinical specialities, e.g., Dysfluency, Developmental Language Disorder, Speech Disorder, autism.
* To manage and prioritise a defined caseload/workload independently.
* To monitor and evaluate own highly specialist service delivery and provide progress reports.
* To interpret clinical guidelines and adapt to local service needs on the basis of specialist clinical knowledge.
* To take delegated lead on the development of specific team objectives or projects in liaison with peers.
* To develop care protocols for specific clinical issues e.g. Dysfluency, Autism, Hearing Impairment, Developmental Language Disorder, Speech Disorder.

Monday-Friday 9am-5pm.

* To assess the need for, develop and implement Speech and Language Therapy treatment to children referred to the designated locality, presenting with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties.
* To provide additional specialist intervention and support to children within one or more specific clinical areas e.g. Developmental Language Disorder, Autism, Speech Disorders and evaluate outcomes using formal and informal specific assessment tools.
* To deliver a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapy service consisting of evaluation of interventions for complex and difficult cases such as tribunals as required.
* To assess children's communication and interaction needs and provide professional advice to contribute to statutory assessments (Education Health and Care Plan Needs Assessments) and the annual review process for individual children in line with the Children and Families Act 2014.
