Job summary We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced and energetic Specialist Biomedical Scientist. The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with post registration experience in Biomedical Science, and a specialist portfolio in Medical Microbiology. Participation in the weekend, Bank Holiday, late shift, and on call rotas is compulsory. The successful candidate should also demonstrate excellent communication, social, and organisational skills. All duties will be performed to a professional standard as directed by the Health and Care Professions Council and Trust/departmental policies and procedures This post is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, although occasional travel to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford may be required. Main duties of the job The Microbiology laboratory at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital receives in excess of 380,000 samples per year. You will assist in the provision of a diagnostic Microbiology service for patients in both primary and secondary care settings. You will understand, organise and competently performa range of laboratory procedures across Bacteriology, Mycology, Serology and Molecular Virology, either singly or as part of a team, that equate to the training and qualifications of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered BMS. You will be required to support the provision of 7 days per week and on call service for Microbiology. You will be required to participate in the provision of the out of hours service either as a lone worker or as a team leader. You will be required to deputise for Senior BMS staff in their absence and take lead responsibility for a specialist section of the department, as required.
