As Engineering Manager, you are fully responsible for all engineering operations. As part of the Leadership Team in the plant, your responsibility is to ensure the engineering function runs smoothly, on time, within budget, adhering to quality standards, health and safety, and in full regulatory compliance. You will report directly to the Plant Manager.
You will drive health and safety, environmental, quality, delivery of productivity, compliance and regulatory requirements, and cost improvements that will add value to the site. Effective Project management is an essential part of this role. You will carefully balance the need to motivate your team with the need to implement senior management decisions and initiatives, not all of which will be popular. You will stay abreast of leading technologies and industry best practices.
Cross-functional teamwork is key as you will work closely and collaboratively with the Operations, Health & Safety, Environmental, Quality, and Logistics functions and other support functions across the business to ensure the production element of the supply chain is always optimized. You will also be responsible and fully accountable for all day-to-day, week-to-week engineering KPI, targets, and plans.
Primary Duties and Objectives:
1. Responsible for the performance of the Engineering function on-site as measured by core metrics of safety, performance & people management.
2. Overseeing the development of a wide variety of engineering projects, monitoring progression against identified milestones, advising, and directing Project Engineers/Site management with involvement from concept to completion.
3. Drive Lean / Continuous Improvement / Optimization initiatives - using lean tools such as problem solving.
4. Setting and ensuring timely completion of engineering schedules.
5. Developing and leading out the Engineering strategy along with the Production and site leadership team.
6. Achieve agreed engineering measures, minimizing downtime and targets.
7. Ensure committed savings are achieved in a timely manner and any obstacles in doing so escalated.
8. Assist with the Implementation of Saica Maintenance System.
9. Management of site Capital projects from infancy to completion.
10. Ensuring Health & Safety Standards are complied with and kept up to date as standards evolve.
11. Complying with both the European and Saica Safety Standards.
12. Assume Project engineer responsibilities for capital projects.
13. Ensuring factory & Project budgets are reviewed and maintained.
14. Maintainability and standardization of equipment.
15. Identify training needs of engineering team and how they will be satisfied.
16. Obtaining quotes for works and provide comparison summary.
17. Setting & Reviewing of Engineering Budgets ensuring monitoring of forecasts vs actual are aligned.
18. Ensure management of Purchase Orders are in compliance with Saica protocol.
19. Promoting new Technology & Innovation.
20. Contribute to enhanced energy performance by conservation of energy where possible.
21. Actively promote and lead a cross-functional teamwork environment. Provides technical guidance & mentorship of technicians.
22. Negotiate contracts with vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring clear communication of expectations and deliverables.
23. Ensure compliance with relevant Global Engineering Standards, Statutory inspection requirements, machinery safety, and Guidance on suitability.
Skills / Knowledge/ Experience/ Academic Requirements:
Essential:
1. Degree level in relevant discipline with experience.
2. FMCG experience, minimum 5 years in Food/Packaging/Pharma environment.
3. Planning and scheduling.
4. Trained in Problem solving techniques, Lean principles, and breakdown analysis.
5. People Management Skills / Team Leadership and development.
6. Financially and commercially astute.
7. Project management.
8. AutoCAD.
9. Health & Safety Training including PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
