STEM Recruitment Solutions are looking for an experienced procurement and supply chain specialist to join one of our most exciting clients. This role supports the Procurement Manager, focusing primarily on strategic spend, inventory management, and cost-saving initiatives. The successful candidate will also process MRP messages to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
Scope of the Role:
The role focuses on critical raw materials and supply chain management while promoting strategic procurement initiatives. This includes minimizing scrap, implementing inventory controls, reducing risk, and driving cost efficiencies. The role is initially UK-based, with potential to expand to other territories.
Key Stakeholders:
External: Suppliers, Industry Bodies
Internal: Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, Fulfilment, Quality, Facilities, HR
Essential Experience:
1. 3-5 years of supply chain experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
2. Familiarity with MRP systems
3. Strong analytical, numeric, and data-mining skills
4. Negotiation and influencing capabilities
5. Experience in new product sourcing and implementing change control projects
6. Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Desirable Qualifications:
1. HND/Degree qualification or significant career experience
2. CIPS qualification (advantageous but not essential)
Responsibilities:
1. Manage strategic commodity spend and the associated supply chain (typical spend £500k+ per supplier).
2. Ensure continuous material availability for production while optimizing inventory to manage cash flow.
3. Investigate root causes of material shortages and implement preventive strategies.
4. Negotiate pricing and terms with suppliers.
5. Monitor supplier performance through quality compliance, on-time delivery, and responsiveness.
6. Support risk mitigation activities to maintain business continuity.
7. Drive continuous improvement within the procurement function and collaborate on cross-functional teams.
8. Ensure that all specifications related to the commodity area are current and meet quality system requirements.
Shift Pattern:
Monday – Friday 8.30am-5.30pm. The role is a hybrid position with 3 days in the office and 2 days at home. The ideal candidate would need to be flexible regarding the hybrid element as the work from home days are rotational.
