About the Role: As an SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA), you will play a crucial role in creating a supportive and structured learning environment for children with a range of additional needs. Working closely with class teachers, SEN specialists and therapists, you will provide individualised support, ensuring that each child receives the assistance they require to thrive both academically and emotionally. SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Responsibilities: One-to-one and small group support, helping students engage with their learning and develop essential skills. Implementing personalised learning plans, adapting teaching materials to meet each child’s unique requirements. Encouraging social and emotional development, using strategies to promote confidence, resilience, and independence. Providing sensory and behavioural support, using de-escalation techniques when necessary. Assisting with speech and language interventions, working alongside therapists to support children’s communication needs. Helping with structured routines, ensuring a safe, consistent, and engaging learning experience. Supporting personal care needs, including toileting and mobility assistance when required. Monitoring progress and providing feedback, contributing to individual education plans (IEPs) and liaising with SEN professionals. SEN Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) Job Requirements: Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, or a similar support role in a classroom or school setting, is preferred. Demonstrate strong knowledge of Autism, ADHD, SLCN, and SEMH needs, as well as strategies for supporting students with these conditions. Additional training in Moving and Handling, Team Teach, or Trauma-Informed Practice is advantageous but not essential. Be familiar with positive behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment. Have an updated CV ( covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps ) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one). Why Join GSL Education?
