Job responsibilities
The adult primary ciliary dyskinesia service (PCD) in Southampton is looking for a part-time B6 physiotherapist to join the team and support the current B7 physiotherapist. The adult PCD service supports over 120 adult patients with PCD to manage their condition. This B6 will form a key part of the team, providing patients with individualised treatment plans, taking part in face-to-face and virtual clinics, providing advice to patients and clinicians via email and phone. The job will suit someone who is flexible and can work longer days if required to cover external clinics. There will be opportunity for the B6 to be involved in research and audit at a local and national level.
As this post is part of the wider Therapy services department, you will have many opportunities to develop new skills and knowledge through our in-service training. You will be part of a large department of over 300 wte Therapy staff including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy support staff.
We provide a 7-day therapy service for our Trust and therefore you need to be able to work weekends and bank holidays, on a rota basis. For Physiotherapists, this includes our out-of-hours respiratory On-call service.
This postholder will work alongside the current B7 physiotherapist to provide Outpatient care to all adult PCD patients managed by the South of England PCD management service in Southampton. While you do not need to have previous experience of working with people with PCD, you will be expected to have experience of working with people with chronic lung disease. The main responsibilities of this new post include:
* Assessing patients at annual review and routine clinic appointments, and formulating individualised treatment plans in conjunction with the PCD team
* Attending regional PCD clinics, working with local physiotherapists to formulate joint care plans
* Triaging phone calls and emails from patients, and regional respiratory teams, and providing timely advice to support patients to manage their PCD
* Working alongside the B7 PCD physiotherapist to develop the adult PCD physiotherapy service, e.g., auditing current treatment outcomes, writing patient leaflets
* Providing education to local and regional MDTs on recognizing, assessing, treating and managing PCD
* Undertaking and delivering in-service training at UHS to promote the adult PCD service
Essential skills and qualifications:
* Qualified Physiotherapist with a broad range of post-qualification experience
* Current HCPC registration
* Evidence of experience using specialist equipment, including respiratory equipment
* Documented evidence of experience doing shifts within an acute respiratory on-call out of hours service - including intensive care, both adults and children.
* Experience as a student supervisor.
* Clear desire for wanting to work in UHS therapy service on your application form.
* Clear expressed desire for working in this clinical specialty
* Clear knowledge of NHS systems, evident in application form
* Good written and verbal communication.
* Car driver, to attend regional clinics and undertake visits to community sites
