Stainless Metalcraft manufactures equipment for some of the world's most hazardous environments. Our expertise includes pressure vessels, vacuum vessels, and cryogenic vessels for safety-critical applications across sectors such as medical, research, big science, power generation, nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemical, and water. Metalcraft has received numerous awards, including the Queen's Award for Enterprise in 2020 and the Princess Royal Training Award in 2020 and 2023.
Apprenticeship Programme Overview
1. Apprentices can progress their careers in various areas of the business, whether shopfloor-based (e.g., team leader) or office-based roles.
2. Many apprentices pursue further studies, such as HNC, and join our engineering, inspection, and other departments.
3. Year 1: Based at Metalcraft training school & West Suffolk College (NCTC), gaining skills in machining, fitting, hand tools, fabrication, and welding.
4. Year 2: Focused training in core areas to develop skills in manual and CNC machining, fabrication, welding, inspection, and product engineering.
5. Year 3: Emphasis on skilled techniques, developing workshop-based skills.
6. Year 4: Working towards becoming a fully skilled operator and enhancing workshop competence.
7. Year 5: An improver year to refine skills learned.
8. Qualification gained: Level 3 standard qualification (equivalent to A levels).
9. Training will be delivered by West Suffolk College at the North Cambs Training Centre, located next to Metalcraft's site.
10. First-year training: 2.5 days/week; subsequent years: day release.
Working Hours
Years 1 & 2: Monday to Thursday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (lunch 12:30-1:00 pm), Friday 8:00 am - 12:30 pm.
Years 3-5: Monday to Thursday 7:30 am - 4:30 pm (lunch 12:30-1:00 pm), Friday 7:30 am - 12:30 pm.
