Job Description
Aeromechanics Engineer
Full time
Derby
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Aeromechanics Engineer to join the Aeromechanics team within the Fluid Mechanics function, based in Derby.
As an Aeromechanics Engineer, you will play a crucial role in de-risking current and future Rolls-Royce engines. The role will focus on fan and seal aeromechanics, providing opportunities to develop your skills in aerodynamics, stress, numerical modelling, coding, and high-performance computing.
Work within our team spans the whole product lifecycle and ranges from capability acquisition to the assessment and mitigation of aeromechanics threats on new products. We also provide support for production and service issues within our extensive fleet of large civil gas turbine engines. The aeromechanics team also develops new understanding and technology across TRLs 1-6 in collaboration with our strategic partners and global engineering community, helping Rolls-Royce deliver safer and greener engines.
What you will be doing
With this attractive opportunity you will get a chance to:
1. Work with world-leading prediction capability to perform detailed analyses of fan systems and seals to quantify potential threats to current and future Rolls-Royce products.
2. Use your aeromechanics, aerodynamics, and stress skills to improve understanding of complex fluid-structure-interaction mechanisms.
3. Deliver clear and concise analysis results to guide current and future Rolls-Royce engine development programmes.
4. Work with academic partners to develop and deliver capability acquisition strategies.
5. Participate in national and EU R&T projects.
6. Embed and promote continuous improvement practices.
Who we are looking for:
To be successful in this role you will need:
1. To be qualified to a Master’s level, or equivalent, in a STEM subject, preferably with research or analysis experience in aerodynamics, stress, or aeromechanics.
2. Evidence of understanding and delivering analyses of complex physical processes, preferably related to fluid-structure-interactions.
3. Proven ability to learn quickly in multidisciplinary fields.
4. Proven ability to use CFD/FEA software to analyse components or systems.
5. Strong communication and presentation skills, particularly in concisely discussing complex technical subjects.
6. Strong team working skills and appreciation for group achievements.
