Permanent, full-time position – London, ON
Do you have hands-on experience managing enterprise infrastructure across Windows and Linux systems, modern cloud platforms like AWS and GCP, and data center operations? Are you skilled in designing secure, resilient, and scalable IT environments that support business continuity?
London Hydro’s Information Systems Department is seeking a detail-oriented System Administrator with a strong technical foundation and a passion for solving complex infrastructure challenges. Reporting to the Manager, IT Infrastructure, you will be responsible for architecting, deploying, and maintaining a broad range of technology systems—including cloud infrastructure, networks, servers, enterprise storage, security, and disaster recovery.
You’ll work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver stable, secure, and high-performing systems that support our business operations. From daily administration to long-term infrastructure planning, your work will be essential to keeping London Hydro’s IT ecosystem secure, reliable, and future-ready.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a System Administrator, you'll be the backbone of London Hydro’s IT infrastructure, responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting systems that are secure, resilient, and scalable. Your key responsibilities will include:
* Deploy, configure, and support systems across Windows, Linux, and cloud environments (AWS, GCP), ensuring optimal performance and availability.
* Architect and maintain enterprise-grade solutions using a mix of on-premises and cloud technologies to meet evolving business needs.
* Manage enterprise storage, networking, and compute platforms, ensuring consistency, uptime, and performance across all systems.
* Collaborate with the Cyber Security team to design and implement baseline security configurations and ensure compliance with policies, standards, and best practices.
* Administer system-level security controls, including SSL, encryption, and access management across web and cloud platforms.
* Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive systems and data across the organization.
* Plan, schedule, and execute system maintenance activities, upgrades, and migrations with minimal disruption to operations.
* Proactively monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex issues, and implement corrective actions to maintain stability and efficiency.
* Manage and maintain software and operating system licences.
* Lead the development, testing, and execution of IT backup and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
* Maintain detailed documentation, including system configurations, solution architectures, and operational procedures.
* Evaluate emerging technologies and provide strategic input on their implementation and value to the organization.
* Serve as a technical escalation point for the Technical Analyst and cross-functional teams, offering guidance and resolution for complex technical issues.
* Support hardware and software migrations, including application upgrades and platform transitions.
* Perform the duties of the Technical Analyst.
* Utility Safety Rules, London Hydro safe work practices and procedures, and all components of London Hydro's health and safety program.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
We welcome applications from all candidates, including those whose knowledge, skills, and experience have been developed through alternative pathways from the requirements listed below. London Hydro, at its sole discretion, may deem a job applicant to meet the job requirements if they have sufficient skill, alternate education, and/or experience related to the role.
Education & Experience
* A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field—or equivalent practical experience.
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in enterprise environments supporting Windows Server, Domains, Red Hat and other Linux operating systems.
* Demonstrated success in deploying, securing, and maintaining infrastructure in hybrid cloud and on-premises environments.
Technical Expertise
* Extensive hands-on experience with Red Hat Linux and Windows Server system administration, including patching, service management, and performance tuning.
* Demonstrated proficiency with Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO), DNS, DHCP, firewall administration, and corporate email infrastructure.
* Strong understanding of system hardening, access control, and encryption technologies.
* Proven ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain modern data center infrastructure including virtualized environments (VMware) and enterprise storage.
* Experience supporting cloud-based infrastructure, with hands-on use of AWS and GCP for system administration, backup, and monitoring tasks.
* Competency with shell scripting, automation, and system configuration tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
* Ability to design or support CI/CD pipelines for system updates, patching, or deployment automation (not development-focused).
* Excellent troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across complex, multi-tier environments.
* Strong written and verbal communication, documentation, and collaboration skills.
* High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive systems and data.
Enterprise Applications & Databases
