The successful candidate will be an experienced industrial sewing machinist and will provide an efficient day to day service for the Trust in the Experience of working in a busy sewing room environment is advantageous. The post is primarily based at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary but will be expected to provide cover across sites on an ad hoc basis. Therefore, a driving licence would be advantageous.
A need for excellent numeracy and literacy skills is essential, including the ability to assess alterations and modifications. The operation of labelling and heat seal equipment for the security marking of linen and uniforms and the recording of staff uniform allocation for audit purposes are also requirements of this post.
Candidates who have worked in the sewing industry historically, maybe interested in the role.
With a flexible approach the post holder will also be expected to provide assistance as required in the busy linen room with the distribution of linen to wards, departments and residences of the Trust. Therefore, the ability to receipt and audit goods efficiently and accurately is required.
This is not exclusive to Wigan Infirmary and the candidate may be expected to work across WWL sites on an ad hoc basis.

Measuring, altering, and fitting of staff uniforms in accordance with the Uniform Policy. In addition, the post holder will carry out repairs to Trust linen to the highest standard.

Use of the onsite laundry facilities for the purpose of laundering Neonatal and Maternity and other baby linen is also required.

Patient/Service user related tasks
▪ Measure staff for uniform using tact and diplomacy as appropriate and make alterations (including pattern cutting) as appropriate to ensure that the correct size and/or style of uniform is issued. Carrying out basis alterations where required.
▪ Prepare name labels for heat sealing to staff uniforms, curtains and Trust owned linen items.
▪ Undertake duties within Linen Services using equipment provided where prior training has been given ie domestic washing machines/driers, labelling irons, sewing machine, over locker.
▪ Security mark all items using heat seal irons before issuing them into use.
▪ Allocate completed uniform to staff upon request and update and complete records of staff uniforms issued and pass the completed records to the Supervisor.
▪ Assess the scale of damage wear/tear to items and decide upon the best course of action to effect repairs/alterations using experience of working with industrial sewing machines and over locker and knowledge of sewing room best practices and procedures including recommendations to Supervisor for condemning of garments.
