Job Ref: JI/AH/01/24
Reporting to: The Employer with the help of 2 family advocates
Location: Tamworth, Staffs B77
Rate of Pay: £12.00 per hour
Nature of the Job Role: Working as an individual or part of a team of 2 Personal Assistants over 18 hours per week assisting the employer with her personal and social day-to-day care to support her independent living. Due to the personal nature of the job, the employer would prefer only female PAs.
Main Duties:
1. Washing
2. Dressing
3. Preparing food and drinks
4. General welfare issues
Personal Duties: Attending to the employer's daily needs, including washing, dressing, toilet arrangements (commode emptying), and overseeing (but not responsible for) her medication usage and ad hoc needs. It is hoped that the successful candidate(s) would also become a companion to the employer. The employer has four small toy dogs (Jack Russel type), and therefore the PAs must be comfortable with these animals wandering about in the home environment. The PA will not be required to look after the pets.
Domestic Duties: General light housekeeping and the general cleaning of her living accommodation to a reasonable standard of hygiene. Other ad hoc duties may be required.
Social Duties: Occasionally taking the employer out and about using a wheelchair. This may necessitate using public or private transport where appropriate. Trips may vary but will possibly include doctors/hospital appointments, social shopping, and on occasions, leisure and entertainment. The employer will bear the cost of these outings where applicable. The employer is able to walk a short way and is able to alight a vehicle(s) with assistance.
Hours of Work: It is proposed that the successful applicant(s) would cover 18 hours per week. The hours of work are to be flexible with a satisfactory agreement/arrangement by all concerned. It is expected that the successful candidate(s) would cover one another’s annual leave arrangements and requirements by prior arrangement with the employer and their colleague. Again, this would/could be flexible but would ultimately ensure that all lawful annual leave requirements are met.
Qualifications: The successful applicant(s) should be female, fit, and active, and preferably live in the Tamworth area. It would be an advantage if they held a current driver’s licence for a motor car and had their own transport available; however, this is not essential. The person(s) concerned would be flexible in their approach to dealing with the issues a disabled person may bring and able to respond accordingly to day-to-day changes in duties and/or requirements.
Skills & Experience: Previous experience working with adults and manual handling of people would be advantageous but not essential.
NB: It is proposed that the employer will have two advocates who would be available to consult and/or advise on any issue(s) that may arise with these arrangements. It should be understood that the employer is also capable of making her own decisions and is of sound mind.
