Due to an internal promotion, we are looking for an exceptional people-leader to join our Civil South Island business based in Christchurch, supporting a team of Health & Safety advisors across multiple projects in the South Island and lower North Island, to deliver the good work we are known for.
You will be responsible for managing a high performing H&S team, providing leadership, advisory and mentoring to your direct reports and on the frontline to our people, clients and subcontractor partners. Collaborating with area operations, project teams, support services, the wider Fulton Hogan NZ business and all levels of management and field staff, reporting directly to the National HSQE Manager - Civil, to support our people on our Living Safely journey.
In addition to the above you will:
* Ensure the implementation and consistent application of our systems, plans, policies, initiatives and strategy within your area.
* Build trusting relationships to influence and collaborate on solutions.
* Lead and support your team to deliver all aspects of their work, managing team performance.
* Provide frontline HS support, advisory and coaching to site teams, subcontractors & clients.
* Take ownership of area delivery for Safety specific events and initiatives.
* Review and Lead Incident investigations.
* Assist in the development of site-specific HS management plans & safety in-design methodology.
This is a role that requires strong and credible safety leadership with a number of different day-to-day responsibilities so you must have the ability to manage multiple tasks, working in both a reactive and proactive environment.
You will live and breathe safety & wellbeing, quality and environmental excellence, and with your solid industry knowledge, outstanding leadership and high integrity you will have the ability to get everyone aboard the waka.
You’ll use your excellent people skills to build genuine and lasting relationships with our subcontractor partners, clients and our people (we’re one big whanau). And you’ll have the skills and experience to help us achieve our strategic objectives.

We’re looking for someone with:
* A proven track record of success and time served as a frontline Manager or Senior Safety Advisor (or similar technical / managerial role) in a high-risk industry.
* Health and Safety qualifications at level 6 or above (desirable but not essential).
* Solid knowledge of applicable acts, standards and regulations relating to Health & Safety compliance in civil construction activities.
* Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to build trust and respect with a diverse workforce at all levels.
* Advanced skills such as conflict resolution, negotiation, change management, contracts, law.
* Strong coordination skills and ability to change tasks while maintaining productivity.
* Excellent problem solving and stress management skills.
* Ability to gather and analyse data, research, compile information and prepare reports.
* Be the conscience of the business, with integrity and honesty.
* Awareness of Safety II and HOP principles.
* High level of computer literacy. Able to train others in the use of proprietary apps and software.
