Working Pattern: Full Time, 37 hours per week
Location: Bridge House, Worthing with countywide travel and hybrid working

You will work with children who are in the youth justice system who may have complex needs to improve their circumstances and reduce the likelihood of them reoffending through ensuring they can access appropriate education, training and employment. We are looking for motivated, emotionally resilient and tenacious candidates who are passionate about enabling positive and sustainable outcomes for children and young people.
The purpose of this role is to support children and young people working with the Youth Justice Service (YJS) who are not accessing a suitable level of education or those ‘Not in Education, Employment, or Training’ (NEET). You will be working with schools and colleges to enable children and young people to get back into education, training or employment. You will also be the expert lead on education within the YJS, so offer consultation to other Youth Justice Service colleagues, as well as cascading out best practice in this area and updates in any legislation. You will liaise with schools and education colleagues and use both restorative practice and a graduated approach to prevent exclusion within schools and ensure education and employment is seen as a way to safeguard children.
You will need to be able to travel countywide for all aspects of your work. There is a regular and intrinsic requirement to communicate in English with members of the public.
About You
Some of the key skills you will need include:
5. Developed advisory, negotiation, advocacy and persuasion skills
6. Ability to record information, present reports and give evidence in Court as required.
7. Ability to organise and prioritise work, meeting agreed deadlines.
8. Perceptive, investigative and analytical skills with which to make assessments within guidelines.
9. Degree level qualification, or equivalent qualification or experience.
10. Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues
11. Understanding of Special Educational Needs and the relevant National Guidance.
12. Knowledge of Education Law.
13. Knowledge of the youth justice system and the importance of Education, Training and Employment (ETE) in preventing offending.
14. Demonstrable history of working with children / families experiencing difficulties in order to achieve positive results.
15. Experience of building effective working relationships with a range of clients and partnership agencies.
16. Experience of working in/with an educational setting.

West Sussex Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a high performing multi-agency statutory partnership which provides services before and after court to meet the statutory requirements of the youth justice system. Its primary aim is to prevent offending and reduce reoffending by children. The service works in partnership with a variety of agencies to ensure children are offered appropriate intervention to address their risks, meet their needs and build on their strengths. Further, the service seeks to repair the harm caused to victims and communities by addressing the root causes of offending and reoffending by children.
