The Ophthalmic Imaging team at the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) are delighted to be able to offer a fantastic opportunity for a customer focused, friendly and enthusiastic individual, as part of our expanding service.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will be joining a team of around 28 imagers, who carry out a wide range of imaging techniques in support of the eye unit clinics. Candidates should be enthusiastic and be prepared to work in a busy environment with a flexible approach to working hours, as some evening and weekend working will be included. We also support clinics at peripheral sites, including Lymington hospital, so some off site working will be required. Some degree of management and teaching input will be expected as part of the position.
1. Responsible for the delivery of specialised clinical diagnostic imaging procedures, which meet the highest possible standards with a very high degree of reproducibility.
2. Carry out Visual Acuity Assessment, measure Intra-Ocular pressure, instil eye drops as needed and assist clinicians in running laser lists.
3. Conduct testing of patients Visual fields for diagnosis and treatment using the Humphrey visual field analyser.
4. Complete imaging of patients Retina, Optic Discs, Corneas using a variety of equipment including, Fundus camera and software programmes for retinal photography.
5. Manage own imaging workload workflow including allocation of tasks and prioritisation of workload, to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the imaging service.
6. Identify the required test and, depending on patient performance, decide to repeat or abandon procedure.
7. Use image manipulation and graphics software to optimise image acquisition.
8. Monitoring of equipment levels and equipment performance, reporting and ordering supplies, ordering and liaising with manufactures as to service and repair.
9. To undertake critical analysis of new equipment and report back to the Head of department or other staff.
10. The keeping of records and statistics and the updating of a computer database, reporting results and trends to Head of Ophthalmic Imaging.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
* Science A Level or equivalent experience
* Experience of working within Ophthalmic imaging or relevant field to Level 4 Diploma equivalent
* A detailed understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the eye and a sound knowledge of ophthalmic conditions
* Detailed knowledge of the Visual pathway and how it relates to visual fields defects in different pathologies
* Competent in the use of Humphrey visual field analyser
* Should be proficient, certificated and confident in the imaging of patient's Retina, Optic Discs, Corneas using a variety of equipment including, Fundus camera and software programmes for retinal photography.
* Good, clear communication in order to explain tests to patients who may be hard of hearing or where there are barriers to understanding.
* Methodical approach to tasks as intense concentration for long periods of time is required
* Excellent hand/eye dexterity to be able to make fine adjustments to imaging equipment/apparatus
* Work under pressure to achieve defined goals/targets
* Able to assist patients in wheelchairs in confined spaces
* Ability to perform various imagery in dimly lit and dark environments
* Good level of corrected vision to enable the determination of whether an image is clear and sharply focussed
* Competent to use Octopus Perimeter.

* The ability to build and maintain good working relationships with hospital staff at all levels.
