Are you able to build and maintain strong stakeholder relationships? The role of Development Officer is responsible for alumni engagement, the College regular giving programme and legacy fundraising, all of which need excellent stakeholder management skills.

Job Responsibilities
* Lead on the development of the College’s regular giving strategy and associated annual plans with the Development Director to achieve annual income targets.
* Utilising the annual plans, deliver an all-year-round programme of activity to support the College’s fundraising priorities.
* Manage the College’s telephone fundraising campaigns as well as recruiting student callers.
* Develop a pool of mid-level (£1k-10k) fundraising prospects and engage them through face-to-face solicitations in support of the College’s Vision.
* Facilitate renewals and pledge chasing 2-3 times a year.
* Lead on the development of new digital advances that support the efforts of the Development Office, e.g., the feasibility of online giving days or weeks.
* Monitor and analyse complex data to select the most appropriate prospects for inclusion in the regular giving programme. Compile and analyse detailed reports and statistics to inform decisions and offer recommendations for future fundraising priorities to the Development Director.
* Support and attend Development and Alumni Office events if required.
* Manage a portfolio of legacy pledgers and prospects, maintaining close relationships with each pledger and prospect.
* Implement agreed legacy giving plans to build the pool of legacy pledgers, achieve annual income targets, and long-term legacy income ambitions.
* Develop effective and appropriate legacy cultivation and stewardship plans and deliver high-quality communications to this group of supporters.
* Project manage legacy marketing campaigns to promote legacy fundraising, including researching, writing, and disseminating legacy marketing materials.
* Integrate legacy fundraising into the activities of the wider Development team.
* Utilise the alumni database to ensure all interactions with alumni and donors are recorded, and use Excel to produce in-depth analysis of appeals, supporter behaviour, and giving to best deliver the supporter journey.
* Manage and regularly review and refresh the donor stewardship process; provide continuity between the point of giving, the immediate mailing of thanks, and the ongoing process of donor reporting.
* Keep a record of donor stewardship requirements and produce donor reports as required, liaising with internal stakeholders as needed.
* Lead on devising a multifaceted alumni engagement strategy, with a particular focus on ways to engage the International alumni community.
* Be responsible for the administration of the membership of the College’s Alumni Society Committee.
* Work closely with the Development Office & Events team on a programme of donor cultivation and stewardship, and alumni events in the UK and overseas.
* Collaborate with the communications team to provide regular communications to alumni and donors, including generating content for relevant pages on the College website, contributing to College publications, and social media sites.
* Act as the first point of contact for all alumni queries either by phone, email, or in person; also deal with non-routine enquiries.
* Collaborate, where appropriate, with the University of Cambridge’s central Development and Alumni Relations offices, building strong working relationships within the larger collegiate university.
* Attend Development and Alumni Office events in a networking and relationship-building capacity.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience within a similar role.
* Ability to organise and manage a diverse range of assignments and projects with high efficiency and rigorous attention to detail in presentation.
* Experience working as part of a team, and of cooperating with individual colleagues.
* An articulate and confident manner, demonstrating sensitivity and diplomacy to develop good relationships.
* Knowledge of donors’ and charitable giving trends in higher education (desirable).
* Proven track record of working in a results-oriented environment, e.g., fundraising, sales (desirable).
Skills
* Excellent oral and written communication skills, with experience of communicating with a wide variety of audiences including key stakeholders, both internal and external.
* Ability to be persuasive, with keen negotiating skills.
* Ability to work independently and with little supervision.
* Proven planning, organisational, and prioritising capability.
* A flexible problem solver, able to think on their feet in a variety of situations whilst interacting with key constituents and stakeholders.
* Ability to work as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment, and be able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively and efficiently, often with short deadlines.
* Excellent IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and social networking.
