Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this post is to promote and support a range of active play opportunities during the lunchtime period. The post holder will be responsible for managing and leading a team of SMSAs. They will be responsible for planning and preparing a programme of activities for lunchtime play. They will also be responsible for the completion of all relevant paperwork and administration in line with the OPAL programme. More information about OPAL can be found on their website: (outdoorplayandlearning.org.uk) Main duties and responsibilities Manage the lunchtime supervisory team. Act as the first point of call for first aid during lunchtimes Supervise pupils in designated areas of the school (including playground or external spaces) during the lunchtime and to ensure their safety, welfare and general conduct through appropriate application of the school’s policies and procedures. Establish safe and proper behaviour, by appropriate intervention or referral to senior staff, as appropriate. Identify and report any unauthorised visitors on school premises. Complete any relevant documentation required by the school in relation to incidents occurring during the lunchtime break period and to participate in review/medical meetings, as required. Be aware of any special medical conditions, and the relevant precautions and treatments necessary. To ensure a diverse range of playable resources are provided for, and are accessible to, all children To ensure resources are stored appropriately. Check the quality and condition of resources and repair or remove any resources that are not of a suitable condition Discuss resources with the children (school council) and use their views to create development plans Organise and carry out the replenishment of resources through: Organising the purchasing of resources as required in line with OPAL action plan Coordinating appeals within school and local communities for resources Coordinating collection of resources from sources such as the Scrapstore Support the OPAL team with securing of funding from internal or external sources Provide support and training for other school staff or pupils as required Build playworker expertise and practice within the Play Team Share play experiences in assemblies and school event Review activities to promote self evaluation and play development Create opportunities for play to support the social and behavioural development of pupils Ensure a rich and varied set of play opportunities is available to all children to engage in. Provide engaging playwork interventions where pupils who find positive behaviour choices challenging Cover for SMSA sickness when necessary. Physical Effort & Working Environment The post holder will be expected to undertake bending, lifting and stretching in the course of their duties e.g. preparing the lunchtime zones, putting out and packing away tables and play equipment, assisting and engaging with children and with activities. There may be an increased level of physical effort required for children with personal or specialist needs. During periods of supervision outside in the playground, there will be an expectation that the post holder will be exposed to heat and cold which on occasions, for example adverse weather conditions, may be higher than normal.
