We’ve two amazing opportunities to join our Health and Safety team here at Northumbrian Water group (NWG). We are looking for two extremely motivated individuals with a real passion for H&S, who will help drive our aspiration of ensuring every employee goes home safe at the end of each day.
H&S Business Partner Operations:
In this role, you will play a pivotal part in driving the Everyone Home Safe Every day (EHSED) culture across the business. Working closely with stakeholders, you will provide expert guidance and leadership to ensure that health and safety practices are effectively and pragmatically integrated into daily situations. You will work closely with your team of H&S advisors, leading, motivating and managing their performance, ensuring the business is supported in its vast array of high hazard operations.
We’re looking for you to support stakeholders at every level in delivering world class health and safety performance in their business areas, way beyond minimum legal compliance. We are also looking for you to partner with stakeholders ensuring that health and safety initiatives enhance and compliment the wider businesses strategy and performance. You’ll act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all health and safety obligations across NWG ensuring that technical information and legislative requirements are translated into the business in a practical and effective way.
You will work closely with the Head of HSS to develop strategic initiatives and embed the EHSED culture across NWG. Alongside peers you will review changing legislation, ACOPs and guidance, along with the development of policies and procedures, ensuring clear guidance for front-line employees.
H&S Business Partner Construction:
AMP8 investment which will run from 2025 to 2030 is set to deliver £3.6bn of capital investment across NWG’s operating areas. This will see Northumbrian Water work with over 35 new contract partners, forming the Living Water Enterprise (LWE), a collaborative delivery route from client to supply chain.
In addition to developing strategic initiatives this role will be primarily centred on our Asset Management directorate, working with internal stakeholders and all contract partners including the LWE. The role is vital in guaranteeing third party working standards are always to the highest standards, including contractor monitoring and assurance and exceeding legal compliance, whilst ensuring our EHSED aspiration is embedded into every single company working on behalf of and in collaboration with NWG.
Alongside colleagues you will review changing legislation, ACOPs and guidance, along with the development of policies and procedures. You will lead a team of H&S advisors motivating and managing their performance, ensuring the business is supported in its high hazard construction operations.
About you
We are seeking someone with a proactive attitude, strong work ethic and the ability to deal with a demanding workload to join the team and make a real difference. To have proven H&S experiences would be beneficial but not essential. You’ll have or be willing to achieve NEBOSH Diploma or an equivalent H&S qualification, which will feed into attainment of Chartered status of IOSH (CMIOSH). You must be able to drive and be willing to work across all three operational areas.
We’re looking for you to have a learning mind-set and excellent people skills (engaging, listening, and understanding people’s needs), along with the ability to, ‘think’, ‘feel’, ‘say’ and ‘do’, aligned to the safety culture aspiration and NWG vision and values in everything they do.
You’ll be open minded and willing to try new working methods and initiatives to improve safety, health, and wellbeing across the business, along with the ability to work collaboratively across the health and safety team and wider business functions.

This role has also been defined as a safety or security critical role and as a condition of a formal offer of employment you’ll be required to undergo a drug and alcohol test.
Prospective employees and agency workers in defined safety and security critical roles will be required to undertake a drug and alcohol test after the job offer has been made. This will be prior to or within four weeks of their start date.
Prospective employees and agency workers who fail a pre-employment urine drug screen will have their sample analysed by the Company appointed laboratory as a matter of course. Failing a pre-employment drugs or alcohol test may lead to the job offer being revoked
