About the role The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) plays a vital role in protecting the public by setting high standards for nurses, midwives, and nursing associates. We ensure that the professionals in these fields are educated to a high standard, apply the Code to their daily practice, and provide safe, compassionate care throughout their careers. We are now seeking an experienced Assistant Director, Education Quality Assurance to lead our Education Quality Assurance (EdQA) function and make a significant impact on the future of nursing and midwifery education across the UK. This is a senior leadership role overseeing the delivery, governance, and continuous improvement of our EdQA function. This includes managing our outsourced EdQA service delivery contract and ensuring that nursing and midwifery education meets the high standards set by the NMC. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that education providers meet regulatory standards, allowing us to protect public safety and promote quality education. Key responsibilities include: Strategic Leadership : Lead the EdQA function, ensuring alignment with NMC’s priorities, providing expert advice to senior stakeholders, and maintaining a strong focus on continuous improvement and risk management. Quality Assurance : Oversee the delivery of EdQA across the UK, ensuring that processes are data-driven, innovative, and responsive to emerging challenges in education and practice. Governance : Ensure robust governance mechanisms for EdQA, including reporting concerns to the QA Board and ensuring timely, accurate reports to the Executive Board and Council. Resource Management : Manage the EdQA budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources and the optimal performance of the team. Continuous Improvement : Identify and act upon opportunities to improve the EdQA framework and operational delivery, using sector feedback and data to refine and enhance the service. About the Team The EdQA function is a critical part of the Professional Practice Directorate, which ensures that education institutions and practice placement providers meet the NMC’s high standards. You will be leading a multi-disciplinary team and collaborating with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, education bodies, and commissioning bodies across the UK. As part of the directorate’s leadership team, you will contribute to a collaborative working environment aimed at improving healthcare education quality and safety. About You We are seeking an experienced senior leader with a passion for education quality assurance and a deep understanding of the higher education sector. The ideal candidate will have: Post-graduate qualification and significant experience in management and leadership, ideally in the education or regulatory sectors. Proven experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and leading quality assurance processes, particularly in higher education or a regulated environment. Experience of managing risks associated with education quality assurance, including conducting audits, evaluations, and continuous improvement activities. Strong budget management skills, with the ability to allocate resources effectively and manage expenditure in line with financial regulations.
