Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs, time, and resources required to complete construction projects. As a key player in our team, you will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure accurate budgeting and cost control throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Cost Estimation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses.
2. Bid Preparation: Review project plans, specifications, and other documentation to generate comprehensive bids for both small and large-scale construction projects.
3. Project Analysis: Assess project specifications, drawings, and site conditions to identify potential risks, challenges, and areas for cost-saving measures.
4. Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to gather information and provide realistic estimates.
5. Vendor and Subcontractor Liaison: Solicit quotes from vendors and subcontractors, ensuring all costs are factored into the estimate.
6. Budget Management: Track and monitor project costs, ensuring that estimates align with the final project budget.
7. Cost Reporting: Provide regular updates to senior management on the status of estimates and budgets.
8. Cost Control: Analyze actual costs against estimates during construction and recommend corrective actions if necessary to stay within budget.
9. Tender Submissions: Assist in preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation for clients, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
10. Quality Assurance: Ensure that all estimates meet quality standards and are consistent with industry practices and regulations.
Qualifications & Requirements:
1. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (preferred).
2. Experience: Several years of experience in construction estimating, with a proven track record of handling both commercial and residential projects.
3. Knowledge: Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, labor costs, and industry standards.
4. Technical Skills: Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Buildertrend, Sage Estimating, etc.) and Microsoft Office Suite.
5. Analytical Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and analytical abilities to assess project plans and perform accurate cost analysis.
6. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with clients, vendors, and project teams.
7. Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify challenges and propose viable solutions.
8. Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
9. Certifications (Preferred): Professional certifications such as AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) or RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) are a plus.
Additional Skills (Preferred):
1. Experience in specialized construction sectors (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial).
2. Familiarity with local building codes and regulations.
3. Knowledge of green building and sustainable construction practices.
4. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
