The Role
Two exciting opportunities have arisen for Detective Sergeants to join Surrey Police’s Sexual Offence Investigation Team (SOIT) based at Surrey Police HQ. SOIT investigate serious sexual offending towards adult victims across the county of Surrey.
As a SOIT Detective Sergeant your leadership will be key to leading high performing investigators and Sexual Offence Liaison Officers (SOLOs) in support of survivors of serious sexual offending, to leading prosecutions to court and working collaboratively with partners to safeguard survivors. You will join SOIT during our implementation of Operation Soteria, a national academically supported programme to improve sexual offence investigations across the criminal justice system. You will be one of three Detective Sergeants supervising one of three investigation teams, reporting to a Detective Inspector.

Key Responsibilities
You will:
Be responsible for managing, supporting, and developing your team which comprises PIP2 qualified investigators and police staff SOLOs.
Manage the performance of your staff in line with force wide and Public Protection priorities. Using data to evidence your focus areas when managing your staff.
Work collaboratively with partners both within and outside Surrey Police.
Ensure appropriate staffing levels, in line with departmental and force policies.
Raise appropriate lines of enquiry from other sources of evidence or intelligence.
Review investigations led by your investigators, providing clear direction and support including the identification of lines of enquiry.
Undertake other duties appropriate to the rank and character of work as may be reasonably required.
Skills & Experience
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Accredited PIP Level 2 Detective Sergeant (or Temporary Detective Sergeant underdoing your Work Based Assessment)
Accredited Tier Level 2 Witness and Suspect Interviewer
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
You must have good communication skills.
You must have the ability to manage, motivate, support and develop staff.
It is vital that you can evidence your experience in criminal investigation, interviewing, case building and managing investigations to very high standards.
You must be organised, able to prioritise and work with minimal supervision.
Very strong investigative decision-making skills and are confident in exercising your own judgement and rationalising your decisions.
The ability to work collaboratively with partners internally and outside Surrey Police. Have a sound working knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system.
You take responsibility for meeting deadlines and can show your ability to work under pressure.
Able to manage a team and work with changing priorities.
Knowledge and understanding of the Police & Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) and the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act (CPIA).
DESIRABLE
Knowledge of specialist skills such as specialist witness and suspect interviewer, interview manager, FLO/FLA, DMI and Intel processes are all desirable.
Successful completion of the RISDP training course. Training will be provided one in post if you haven’t already completed this course.
Successful completion of the SSAIDP training course and portfolio. Training will be provided once in post if you don’t already have this accreditation.
