We’re looking for a Group Risk Officer to join our team at First Central. In this role, you’ll work closely with our Head of Risk to strengthen our risk and control environment across the First Central Group.
What you’ll bring to the role:
* Risk Management Expertise – You understand risk frameworks, controls, and regulatory requirements—you know how they work and why they matter.
* Ability to Question and Challenge – You’re comfortable asking questions, challenging processes, and offering solutions - you don’t just highlight issues—you help find solutions.
* Data Analytics & Reporting Skills – You’re detail-focused and able to analyse information to support accurate risk reporting and decision-making. You spot the small details that others might miss.
* Attention to Detail & Report Writing – Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-structured reports. You know how to present complex information in a way that makes sense.
At First Central, we’re all about flexibility! Our team mostly works remotely, spending the majority of their time working from home. That said, you’ll need to be based in the UK, with quarterly or ad-hoc visits to our offices in Salford Quays (Manchester), Haywards Heath (West Sussex), Guernsey, or Gibraltar. But here’s the best part – it’s totally up to you! If you prefer more office time, we’d love to have you around. However you work best, we’re here for You!
What's involved:
* Supporting the Head of Risk and Group Risk Managers in shaping and implementing our Risk Management Framework.
* Developing expertise in our risk management system and helping colleagues use it effectively.
* Identifying ways to improve risk systems and working with teams to introduce changes.
* Assisting with risk and control reviews across the Group.
* Keeping risk registers updated and ensuring controls and mitigation actions are reviewed effectively.
* Building strong relationships with Risk and Control Owners across different teams.
* Helping to prepare board and committee reports.
* Working with Assurance colleagues to review controls and support evidence checks.
* Contributing to regulatory and business projects requiring Governance input.
* Ensuring compliance with our Group Code of Conduct, Company Policies, and regulatory standards.
* Managing the Risk Inbox and supporting related tasks as needed.
Experience, skills, knowledge, and qualifications:
* Knowledge of Risk Management Principles and FCA regulations (including the Consumer Duty).
* Awareness of insurance industry trends and best practices in risk, compliance, and corporate governance.
* Strong communication skills – verbal and written – and the confidence to question and challenge information.
* Great time management and organisation skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
* Strong problem-solving ability – you can identify issues, break them down, and find workable solutions.
* High attention to detail – you don’t miss a thing!
* Good numeracy and literacy skills.
* IT skills, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
