Job Overview
A Pastoral Leader is a member of the House Pastoral Team, responsible for the efficient and effective running of the allocated House, ensuring that the welfare and needs of students are catered for. The House Pastoral Leader is expected to contribute to the development of policies and practices that support the pastoral care and well-being of students.
Responsibilities
* Timely, effective, and appropriate liaison with the Housemaster/Mistress to ensure they are fully briefed on events and developments, and consulted on major issues concerning the health, welfare, and well-being of students. Act on initiative where necessary and follow guidance from Housemasters/Mistresses as required.
* Supervision of students during working hours, ensuring personal cleanliness, completion of House duties, appropriate treatment of one another, and punctuality for all school commitments. Provide individual attention and support according to circumstances and need, while ensuring disputes between students are settled amicably.
* Accompany students to meals and supervise them as required by the House.
* Support the Tutor and House Parent with the academic, behavior, and general progress of students by liaising with other teaching staff and informing the House Parent.
* Assist and administer medication in compliance with School procedures. Administer basic First Aid treatment as necessary and refer students to the Medical Centre for specialist attention. Provide care for bedded-down students within the House in consultation with the Medical Centre.
* In exceptional circumstances, accompany students on appointments as appropriate and consult with Medical Centre staff regarding any requests for appointments made in-House.
Requirements
* A good basic level of education up to GCSE / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, or a commitment to work towards a Level 3 NVQ is essential.
* NVQ or BSA qualifications in relation to working with students are desirable.
* First Aid qualifications are desirable; opportunities will be provided to obtain these in post.
* Commitment to professional development, with all Pastoral Leaders required to complete and pass the Medication training.
