Job Summary
As a member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), you will develop and lead the Income Generation Strategy and contribute to the marketing and communications strategies to secure the resources required to deliver Age UK North Yorkshire and Darlington (AgeUK NYD) strategic objectives.
Ensure that Age UK NYD communicates professionally and effectively during income generation activities, both internally and externally.
Effectively lead, inspire, develop, and manage the fundraising volunteers to enable them to deliver the objectives.
Act at all times in accordance with the values and ethos of AgeUK NYD, particularly recognising the sensitivities in communication regarding the need for legacies.
The focus of the role is to grow both the total income generation and ensure that income is as unrestricted as possible.
Main Responsibilities
1. As a member of SMT, work closely with other members in the strategic development of AgeUK NYD, contributing to the development, implementation, and review of the plan.
2. Support collaboration with external partners alongside the Chief Executive and Head of Operations.
3. Lead the development and implementation of income generation (fundraising and retail) and associated marketing strategies that enable AgeUK NYD to achieve its strategic objectives.
4. Develop and maintain a culture that embeds the values of AgeUK NYD and promotes equality and diversity.
5. Lead by example in promoting positive working relationships, ensuring collaboration and effective teamwork across the whole organisation.
6. Support the governance of AgeUK NYD, engaging fully with all relevant governance bodies and processes.
7. Proactively report to SMT, finance committee, and board meetings to ensure that SMT and Trustees are fully engaged in the development and implementation of income generation strategies. Highlight key areas of risk, opportunities, and successes.
8. Ensure that AgeUK NYD meets all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements related to fundraising.
Leadership and Management
1. Provide direction, expertise, guidance, and leadership on all income generation activities.
2. Develop a culture that supports income generation across AgeUK NYD, ensuring collaboration and a coordinated approach.
3. Lead and inspire the fundraising volunteers to maximise income potential.
4. Implement plans and develop and monitor progress against key performance indicators.
5. Be responsible for audit, risk assessment, and health and safety for all members engaging in fundraising activities.
6. Ensure that all volunteers undertake induction and mandatory training, in coordination with the volunteer manager.
7. Ensure the appropriate use of volunteers in all aspects of income generation.
8. Oversee all performance standards ensuring that any unacceptable behaviour or practice is addressed immediately in line with AgeUK NYD policy.
Income Generation
1. Optimise voluntary income generation by identifying opportunities for growth in existing and new income streams. Develop thinking and plans related to income generation across the organisation, working in partnership with other departments.
2. Present regular reports to Finance Committee and Board to keep them appraised of progress, risks, and opportunities.
3. Focus on building relationships with external stakeholders to create an active network for identifying and building income streams.
4. Adopt a commercial focus to income generation beyond traditional fundraising with new innovative ideas, testing new concepts and initiatives.
5. Keep SMT aware of all income generation activities.
6. Set clear, ambitious, and measurable targets for income generation activity, with a focus on potential in North Yorkshire.
7. With the Chief Executive, agree on annual income and expenditure targets to achieve the desired return on investment.
8. Research new income streams and, when needed, prepare business cases for the Finance Committee.
9. Ensure the successful implementation of viable products.
10. Instigate, organise, and supervise new products, including specific fundraising appeals when agreed.
11. Utilise technology and new ways of income generation to maximise potential.
Marketing
1. Work closely with SMT to ensure that the ethos is communicated to the wider community.
2. Capitalize on AgeUK NYD brand to ensure that all communication and marketing openly state the independence of the charity.
3. Work closely with the projects coordinator regarding publicity and promotion of all activities.
4. Personally manage a “target prospect” list drawn from high net worth individuals, corporate partners, grant making organisations, and develop long-term relationships to forge new opportunities.
5. Work with SMT and Trustees and utilise skills and expertise in stewardship of individuals.
6. Build strong relationships with partners to ensure that we can build AgeUK NYD brand and capitalise on opportunities for collaborative income generation opportunities.
7. Ensure that AgeUK NYD communicates professionally and effectively in all areas of work, including the website, social media platforms, print, publications, and broadcast media.
8. Act as an ambassador for AgeUK NYD including but not limited to, undertaking speaking engagements, acting as a media spokesperson, attending networking and conferences.
General
1. Maintain membership of professional bodies, keep up to date with current trends and changes in charity law and fundraising practice.
2. Undertake mandatory training.
3. Ensure all fundraising activities comply with the Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice and the requirements of the Fundraising Regulator.
4. Any other duties as delegated.

* Experience of strategic thinking, analysis, and business planning
* 2 years or more experience in professional fundraising at a senior level
* Experience of working with volunteers
* Experience of working as a member of a senior team
