Job summary
This is a full-time 10 PA Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant post in CYPS with a focus on Learning disability based in Monkwearmouth Hospital.
It will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in further developing the service model. There will also be opportunities to be involved in leadership, research, teaching, audit, and SPA activities.
We are a teaching service with plenty of teaching opportunities. The precise nature of the post will be discussed and mutually agreed with the candidate at the time of the appointment, considering the service need and the candidate's interests and developmental needs.
Main duties of the job
The role of the CAMHS LD psychiatrist will be to undertake psychiatric assessments and contribute to the management of young people who have an established learning disability, and those who may have such a disability.
The post holder will work within a team of 4.4 WTE Consultant Child Psychiatrists, Core Trainees, Higher Trainees, GP Trainee, and Foundation Trainee. The team also has 3 specialty doctors and a rich MDT of Nurses and Psychologists.
They will develop care plans and packages, and deliver aspects of the care pathway through their expertise in psychopharmacology and psychosocial interventions. The post holder will also undertake assessments of risk and make appropriate recommendations, working with the team and the wider social care system to manage risk to the young person and to others.

Job responsibilities
The clinical responsibilities of the job will include psychiatric assessment and management of children and young people aged 0-18 presenting with Learning Disabilities and associated mental health problems and disorders referred to the service.
They will work together with the wider multidisciplinary team and external agencies to develop and deliver formulations, risk assessments, and care plans through their expertise in diagnostics, psychopharmacology, and psychosocial interventions.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
* MBBS (or equivalent)
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
* Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion
* Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
* Approved Clinician Status

* Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
