As a Domestic Abuse Worker assigned to our Connect project you will be responsible for identifying and meeting the emotional and practical support needs of victims of domestic violence and abuse referred into the Pankhurst Trust (Incorporating Manchester Women’s Aid). The post holder will advocate on their behalf and provide structured support to enable them to start their journey of recovery. Based in community hubs, working directly with other support organisations such as the Police, the Domestic Abuse Worker will co-facilitate the delivery of group work across the city. The main responsibilities of our Domestic Abuse Worker are (this is not an ehaustive list and we can provide the job description on request): completing initial assessments of risk and need, devising safety and support plans and liaising with appropriate agencies, ensuring a holistic and trauma-informed approach to support for service users and their families; attending and contributing to multi-agency meetings to ensure best outcomes for service users; provide advice, guidance and formal support to all internal and external stakeholders; provision of service user support to adhere to all national legislation as well as organisational policy and procedure; proactively developing knowledge and skills relevant to the role, sharing learning and supporting the training of volunteers, staff, current and prospective partners in the PTMWA portfolio. Work with individuals who have experienced domestic violence and abuse through the provision of practical and emotional support. Work with service users to implement actions from MARAC meetings and provide updates on progress to IDVA colleagues within a timely manner. Complete written reports and client updates that are appropriate to the audience for which they are written that succinctly present and appraise options and make clear recommendations for action. Provide, or access by sign-posting to other agencies, appropriate information, advocacy, emotional and practical support, in relation to housing, legal, financial and other matters relevant to service users whilst maintaining the organisation’s strict confidentiality procedures. Work effectively with other service providers, agencies and specialist services in order to achieve positive outcomes for service users and to raise awareness of domestic abuse issues through support and training for professionals. To be successful as a Domestic Abuse Worker you will need to: Have a relevant professional qualification, for example, Health and Social Care L3 or equivalent experience A good level of genral education Recent significant experience of undertaking direct work with vulnerable people including experience of working with people affected by domestic and sexual abuse Experience of carrying out risk assessments, needs assessments, and support planning. Experiece of group development and group facilitation An excellent level of understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on individuals and families A good level knowledge and understanding of statutory and legal provision for people experiencing domestic abuse Ability to work on own initiative and prioritise work in a busy environment.
