Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Global Service Engineer to join our team, responsible for the calibration, repair, and maintenance of laboratory equipment across multiple international locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in laboratory instrumentation, particularly in HPLC, GC, and Spectrophotometry, and will be responsible for supporting and leading service operations in the UK and Africa. This position requires the ability to travel globally, providing on-site support and training, ensuring that our team in Nigeria is equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills. Key Responsibilities: Calibration & Maintenance: Perform precise calibration and routine maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments, including HPLC, GC, and spectrophotometry systems, ensuring they meet industry standards and client specifications. Repairs: Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair laboratory instruments, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal operational efficiency. Maintain comprehensive service records, including equipment performance, repairs, and parts replaced. HPLC & GC Expertise: Provide expert technical support in HPLC and GC systems, including setup, troubleshooting, and optimisation to ensure top-quality performance. Spectrophotometry Expertise: Ensure the proper functionality of spectrophotometric instruments, perform tests, calibrations, and assist in troubleshooting to guarantee accuracy. Training & Leadership: Lead training initiatives for our team in Nigeria, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to handle instrument servicing and repairs independently. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers both in the UK and Nigeria. Global Travel: Travel globally, particularly to Nigeria, to provide on-site technical support, equipment installation, and conduct training sessions for the local service team. Travel to various client sites and company locations to support field service needs. Customer Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact for technical support and customer service for laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Build and maintain strong customer relationships, ensuring their service needs are met and issues are resolved efficiently. Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain accurate service reports, calibration certificates, and maintenance logs for all instruments serviced. Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. Qualifications & Experience: Education: Degree level in Engineering, Electronics, Chemistry, or related field (or equivalent experience). Experience: Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in servicing laboratory equipment, with specific expertise in HPLC, GC, and spectrophotometry. Demonstrated experience in repairing, calibrating, and maintaining complex laboratory instrumentation. Proven ability to provide training and leadership in a technical environment. Prior experience in a global service or support role is an advantage. Skills: Strong technical knowledge of HPLC, GC, and spectrophotometric systems. Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both experienced engineers and less technical personnel. Ability to work effectively across cultures and manage cross-regional teams. Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages (e.g. local Nigerian languages) is a plus. Additional Requirements: Travel: Must be willing to travel internationally, including to Nigeria, for extended periods as required. Physical Demands: Ability to lift and move equipment as required, often in laboratory or industrial settings.
