Our client is currently seeking a Principal Urban Design Officer on a contract basis. This role is pivotal in shaping the urban landscape through strategic planning and development management, contributing to significant regeneration programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Negotiating and appraising major and strategic planning proposals in relation to private and Council regeneration programmes, drawing in over £1bn of inward investment and shaping the borough.
2. Acting as the principal specialist advisor to the Council's Planning service regarding urban design, architectural appraisals, and public realm.
3. Managing the Design Review Panel.
4. Supporting the Planning Policy team in the development and review of design policies and supplementary planning guidance on residential design.
5. Line management of junior design officers.
Job Requirements:
1. Experience in development management within an urban design context.
2. Strong negotiation and appraisal skills related to major planning proposals.
3. Ability to act as a specialist advisor on urban design and architectural matters.
4. Proficiency in managing design review panels and contributing to planning policy development.
5. Leadership skills to manage and mentor junior team members.
6. Understanding of regeneration programmes and inward investment strategies.
