Work
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
On a day to day basis you will learn how to:
* Identify and understand the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of materials
* Use hand tools / machines such as plastic welding guns, routers, manual millers, lathes, annealing ovens, pillar drills, and flame polishers
* Understand and follow engineering drawings and CAD models for projects from a variety of industries including pharmaceutical, emergency services and the car industry
* Fabricate – how to fabricate units following a job sheet
* Apply quality control and inspection procedures to ISO standards
* Use power tools such as angle grinders safely
* Recognise and apply manufacturing standards for housekeeping and maintenance
* Identify and manage maintenance needs for a manufacturing unit
