Summary
We are seeking a Research Scientist to join our Oncology in vivo team based in Loughborough UK. This is an opportunity to work with highly motivated colleagues in a science-oriented, creative, and dynamic environment.
This role will perform procedures for client and internal research in strict compliance with welfare, legislative, health & safety requirements, and company SOP’s/ Policies.
Responsibilities
* Early detection of signs of ill health/loss of condition via clinical observations for prevention of premature decedents.
* Support the system to ensure that a competent person sees and checks every animal kept in the approved holding area at least once daily.
* May support training on experimental procedures in line with current regulatory and/or legislative requirements and to agreed company standards and productivity.
* Generate and provide high-quality data and reports to respective Study Directors.
* Will participate and provide training in general unit sanitation, husbandry and cage washing to demonstrate linear approach to essential facility requirements.
* Understand potential problems associated with the experiments and carry out solutions that have been discussed and agreed with the Head of Technical Operations and other team members.
* Ensure that appropriate levels of sterility and barrier containment are maintained when performing duties.
* Support the continual review of processes and procedures with the view to implement efficiencies.
* To maintain SOP’s, working in association with QMS systems to ensure high quality is maintained.
Requirements
* To have competency in a range of basic techniques including dosing and sampling via common routes, anaesthesia, and post op checks.
* Highly skilled in animal handling and husbandry, welfare assessment (including the use of appropriate terms for the recording of clinical signs), basic surgical skills (e.g. aseptic technique, suturing, anaesthesia, analgesia, PDX models), and some advanced skills (e.g. Surgery and in-life/ex-vivo tissue collections).
* Able to keep accurate records for legislative, regulatory, and scientific purposes.
* Knowledge of the Home Office Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986.
* Proficient in the use of computer applications including MS Office Suite, and LIMS System “Study Log”.
* Attention to detail and highly organized.
* Flexible attitude to work and fully capable of working with minimal supervision.
* Ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple and varied tasks.
* Some weekend/out of hours working.
