At Nutrix Medical we are actively looking for Registered Nurse Band 6 with experience as a school nurse to join our team and pick up ad hoc shifts and potential block bookings.
School nurses play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of students in educational settings. Here are some common duties of a school nurse:
1. Assessment and triage: School nurses assess students' physical and emotional health, provide first aid, and refer students to medical professionals when necessary.
2. Health education: School nurses educate students, teachers, and parents about various health topics, such as nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
3. Medication administration: School nurses administer medications to students, including prescription and over-the-counter medications, under the supervision of a licensed physician.
4. Wound care: School nurses provide wound care and dressing changes for students with minor injuries or chronic conditions.
5. Monitoring health conditions: School nurses monitor students with chronic health conditions, such as diabetes, asthma, or epilepsy, and work with teachers to develop individualized plans for managing these conditions.
6. First aid and emergency response: School nurses respond to emergencies, such as accidents or allergic reactions, and provide first aid as needed.
7. Infection control: School nurses ensure that the school maintains a clean and safe environment by implementing infection control measures, such as proper hand hygiene and sterilization of equipment.
8. Communicating with parents: School nurses communicate with parents about their child's health concerns, medication administration, and any changes in their child's health status.
9. Developing health policies: School nurses develop and implement health policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
10. Collaboration with teachers and staff: School nurses work closely with teachers and staff to develop individualized plans for students with special needs, provide support for students with disabilities, and promote a healthy school environment.
11. Providing referrals: School nurses refer students to community resources for mental health services, counseling, or specialty care when necessary.
12. Maintaining health records: School nurses maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student health information, including immunization records, medication administration records, and health histories.
13. Developing healthy habits: School nurses promote healthy habits among students, such as good hygiene practices, regular exercise, and healthy eating habits.
14. Conducting screenings: School nurses conduct vision, hearing, and other screenings to identify potential health concerns early on.
15. Managing outbreaks: School nurses respond to outbreaks of illnesses such as influenza or other contagious diseases by developing protocols for containment and mitigation.
Requirements:
* Minimum of 1 year experience as a registered school nurse in the UK
* A Valid UK NMC PIN
* Band 6
