Clinical Fellow/Trust Grade in Palliative Medicine
This is a 6-month fixed term locum post working with the hospital palliative care team due to maternity leave based at North Middlesex University Hospital (part of Royal Free Trust).
The post is ideal for any doctor looking to expand their palliative care skills, and to prepare for application to internal, general or palliative medicine training. They will work as part of and with support from the hospital palliative care team.

Main duties of the job
The North Middlesex hospital palliative care team comprises clinical nurse specialists, resident doctors (IMT, GPTVS and StR), a nurse consultant and 4 LTFT palliative medicine consultants as well as admin support. It is a 7-day 9-5pm nurse-led advisory service serving the hospital adult population and working with teams in all departments, including an ED palliative care service and CCU support.
This is not a formally approved training post, but the postholder will join a busy and supportive department, have consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development.
The postholder will take part in a weekend/BH on-call, 1:5 covered by CNSs and resident doctors, with a consultant 2nd on-call. There is also the opportunity to participate in bank shifts at the hospital if desired.
Job responsibilities
1. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Medical review of patients as part of the palliative care team (PCT), with appropriate support by team members
2. Holistic assessment and follow-up of palliative care patients with action plans supported by the PCT
3. Clear documentation and handover, including in discharge documentation and to community services if applicable, and liaison with patients' responsible team and supporting services
2. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENTS
1. Provide patient-centred care and advise, including about the role of the hospital PCT
2. Ensure patients and those important to them are involved in decision making
3. Respect and respond to individual ideas, concerns and expectations as well as potential cultural needs

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Eligible for full GMC registration and license to practice
* Progression towards full MRCP or equivalent specialist qualification
* Broad experience in General (Internal) Medicine and medical specialties
* Completion of F1/F2 years
* At least 6 months experience of working in NHS hospital environment, with knowledge of NHS structures and pathways
* At least 6 months experience working in ED
* Working experience in a specialist palliative care setting

* Relevant clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job
* Clinical judgment: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritize clinical need
* Knowledge of multidisciplinary clinical audit/quality improvement and demonstrable commitment to improving quality of care to patients
* Extra-curricular activities/achievements relevant to the job
