What you will be doing
As a Commercial Lead, you’ll take ownership of delivering strategic commercial outcomes across a single contract or a portfolio of contracts, playing a key role in shaping both the direction and performance of your team. With a strong focus on leadership, stakeholder engagement, and driving continuous improvement, you’ll influence not only how contracts are developed and executed, but also how risks are managed and value is delivered across the project lifecycle. This role provides an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on one of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure projects. Additional roles and responsibilities include:
* Lead a commercial team to manage either a single contract or a portfolio of contracts
* Drive the professional development of both yourself and your team, fostering a high-performance culture
* Ensure implementation of all commercial team accountabilities in line with HPC’s commercial procedures
* Take the lead during the procurement phase, aligning the contract strategy with the overall project plan and ensuring a robust procurement route and programme
* Manage the execution phase of each contract, overseeing compatibility and alignment with other contracts across scope, pricing, personnel, and administration
* Develop and implement commercial strategies for high-value or high-risk project components
* Promote a culture of continuous improvement, embedding lessons learned from previous projects
* Own the management of commercial risks tied to supplier performance and delivery outcomes
* Engage with a broad range of stakeholders including executives, external partners, and regulatory bodies
* Take responsibility for budget oversight, ensuring value and control throughout the contract lifecycle
Who you are
To thrive in this role, you'll bring a solid foundation in commercial management, backed by membership in a recognised professional body such as RICS, CICES, or IOB, and a degree-level education. Your experience working with major project environments—particularly within the power construction industry—will be essential, especially if you’re familiar with NEC and FIDIC forms of contract and have a strong grasp of UK law and how it shapes commercial and contractual decision-making.
You’ll also understand the regulatory demands of working in a nuclear environment, including site licence conditions and the nuclear baseline philosophy. A good knowledge of the UK regulatory framework is key, as is an understanding of supply chain management both domestically and internationally. Additional requirements for this role include:
* Strong commercial and contract management expertise, with a solid grasp of best practice methodologies
* Proven success working as part of a Project Senior Management Team, leading commercial teams and delivering high-performing contracts
* Sharp commercial instincts and the confidence to make well-informed decisions with significant financial impact
* Demonstrated leadership in commercial management, backed by deep knowledge of UK-specific contract practices
* Solid experience in procurement, performance tracking, risk management, and navigating change and claims with confidence
