Job Title: Project Building Surveyor
Pay and working hours:
* Per hour/Salary: £52,000 per annum
* Working hours: Full-time
Key Responsibilities:
*
Manage the planning, design, and delivery of a variety of building projects, including refurbishments, maintenance programs, and space adaptations. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards.
*
Conduct detailed building surveys and condition assessments to inform maintenance strategies and project planning. Prepare technical reports, schedules of condition, and defect diagnosis.
*
Prepare detailed design specifications, tender documentation, and drawings for building projects. Liaise with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure effective design solutions that meet the college’s operational needs.
*
Ensure all projects comply with building regulations, health and safety standards, and other statutory requirements, including fire safety, DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) compliance, and environmental legislation.
*
Act as contract administrator for projects, overseeing tender processes, appointing contractors, and managing contract performance. Ensure works are delivered to a high standard and within contractual terms.

Assist in the preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, and procurement plans. Monitor costs throughout the project lifecycle and ensure value for money.
*
Work closely with internal departments, such as academic faculties and student services, to understand their requirements and deliver projects that meet user needs. Engage with external consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies.

Contribute to the development and implementation of planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules, ensuring the long-term maintenance and sustainability of the college’s estate.

Support the college’s sustainability goals by incorporating energy-efficient and environmentally friendly practices into building projects. Promote sustainable building materials and low-carbon solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
* A degree in Building Surveying, Construction, or a related field
* Professional membership or working towards membership with RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent is highly desirable.
* Demonstrable relevant recent CPD undertaken.
*
Proven experience in building surveying, ideally within a large estate or public sector environment.
*
Strong project management skills with experience in managing small to medium-sized building projects from inception to completion.
*
Good working knowledge of UK building regulations, construction legislation, and health and safety standards.
*
Familiarity with contract administration and the management of contractors and consultants.
