The Clinical Fellows are expected to work together as a team. Each will work with a consultant or pair of consultants. The Fellow will also be expected to co-operate with and develop good working relationships with junior doctors in other departments, departmental nursing staff, and staff in diagnostic and physiotherapy departments.
Main duties of the job
You will be based at Wrightington Hospital with clinical commitments at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary. Wrightington is a name familiar to all Orthopaedic Surgeons, following the studies in total hip joint replacement conducted by the late Professor Sir John Charnley. We are located 5 miles north west of Wigan, situated just half a mile from junction 27 off the M6 motorway.
Applications are invited for a Lower Limb Arthroplasty Fellowship post at Wrightington Hospital to commence August 2026. This post is for a duration of 12 months.
This post does not attract a National Training Number (NTN) but has SAC approval and is aimed at Specialist Registrars who have neared completion of their training and seek Fellowship experience in Hip and Knee arthroplasty Surgery.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Full registration with GMC
* FRCS (T+O) or equivalent
* Higher Specialist Training or equivalent
Desirable criteria
* Higher Specialist Training or equivalent
* Evidence of postgraduate prizes
* Teaching Degree
Experience
Essential criteria
* Lower limb arthroplasty surgery
* Evidence of experience in lower limb arthroplasty / complex revisions demonstrated by a log book
* Evidence of participation in Education or Teaching
Desirable criteria
* Evidence of lower limb arthroplasty research/peer review publications
Skills
Essential criteria
* Evidence of commitment to lower limb arthroplasty as demonstrated through active participation in audit, research, and CPD relevant to sub-speciality
* Good communicator and team player
* Ability to keep good clinical records
* Ability to set priorities in the face of conflicting demands
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* FRCS (Tr and O) or equivalent knowledge base for arthroplasty
